Beautiful Color, Great Protection
I went through several products before I tried the Watco Butcher Block Oil Plus Stain in Hazelnut, which I used to stain, finish, and provide a protective layer for a giant butcher block I bought that was not the ideal shade. The result - a beautiful, glossy finish that has resisted water and food stains from several charcuterie and butter board spreads.Couple of things to note:The stain went on very easily with an old T-short used as the rag and dried quickly between coats (less than 24 hours), which made the process relatively easy. The color is rich and vibrant, but it did take me four coats to achieve the desired color, depth, and consistent evenness. However, my board came already stained, so that could be why it took that many coats. While the end result is great, be prepared for multiple applications if you're aiming for a deeper shade. The color pay-off ended being amazing, but it does require a bit more effort.

Sealed, stained, protected.
Easy to apply to my new butcher block counters. I love the color I bought (hazelnut). I installed butcher block on my island and a new coffee station. It was put on light wood.

i added one coat a day so it had time to soak in with two coats the color was brown.
works great and the more coats the darker the final color.

Easy to apply with a great finish
I used a couple of coats of this on a 'cheap' butcher block. The finish looks fantastic and has held up really well in the past couple of months. Even a slightly harsh environment (some hot coffee cups, spilling grounds, and general high usage) it's held up super well as a coffee bar top. I followed the surface prep and sanding instructions between coats, but I also did a final sanding of 1600grit to take out and small bumps or imperfections left. Final result is very smooth to the touch. I stopped after 3 coats so that the grain still shows through slightly. It got darker and darker each coat.

Pretty Good stain
The stain applies easily when the temperature and humidity are right. I have used stains for years on wood working projects. This product is a little finicky when you apply it, if the heat and/or humidity are high it will create some issues. It will dry to quickly and start to get tacky before you can get to the next section. It was bout 85 degrees out when I was using it. The wood takes the stain easily enough. I didn't have any dark or light spots on the wood. Wood prep was just a light sanding.I applied it in the garage workshop due to smell and vapors. It doesn't smell as strong as other stains I have used.Stands up well under use. I have a large bread board that I used it on and it looks nice.It has been in used for over a month and the stain is holding up well.

This is a great stain for butcher block
I purchased kitchen cabinets in a soft cream color for my dining room nook from a big box store. Since I have a black, round dining set, I thought a dark countertop would look good, & make a nice contrast. So, I went back to that big box store and purchased a piece of butcher block, & ordered this food-grade stain from Amazon. I applied 7 or 8 coats (butcher block is thirsty), and it looks great. The dry bar holds all of my pup's blankets, sheets, towels, drool rags, medicines, snacks and binder of paperwork from his vets.
