Complete assembly required.
This was a good buy price and comfort wise however, the description on Amazon was basic assembly which really meant complete assembly. But the instructions were good and it wasn't that hard to do, it just took a lot of time since I have never built anything before. The chairs look nice, function well and most importantly, are very comfortable. They are also easy to fold and move for lawn mowing and stowing away which is why I chose folding ones.

Good chairs to paint.
Love these chairs! I bought two for my front porch remodel and I'm glad I picked these up despite the mixed reviews. I read several reviews before buying -thank you reviewers- and was concerned about the quality. I'm glad I decided to pick these up. For the $50 price these are a great deal. They are adorandak STYLED so don't expect a $300 lifetime quality chair. I shopped around and most chairs similar to these were in the $100 range at my local retail stores. I did note a few issues the other reviewers wrote about:The size is great for average size person and will work okay for a larger man too. My husband is 6'2" and 220 and he fits in his chair no problem. Anyone larger may feel a bit cramped. These chairs aren't tiny, they are just not your typical heavy weight xl sized adorandaks.Putting these together will take about an hour per chair if you have an electric screw driver. There are a lot of pieces but they are marked and following the directions was pretty easy just bring your patience. The second chair went together much faster with only a couple glances back to the manual. The boards are unfinished and I noted several places with putty patches. This was not an issue for me because I painted mine. If you plan to stain them it may be a problem because my putty marks were right on the arm rest. I did not have any cracked or weak board. Some of the pieces were a little rough but I sanded them down a bit and they were fine. The fold up feature is nice. You may need to adjust the tightness for an easier fold but with a little tweaking my two chairs worked well. I also had no problem carrying these outside by myself. They are about 15lbs each.I think if you are realistic about the expected quality of a 50 dollar chair you will likely be very happy with this purchase. I would definitely buy these again and now that I'm familar with them I'd even pay more.If your on the fence like I was because of the negative reviews don't be afraid to buy these. They may not be perfect, but they are a good value for a wood chair.

NOT Recommended
The final product is worth about three stars. It''s smaller than a proper Adirondack chair and flimsy -- usable, but definitely not worth the price. The reduction to one star is because of the hardware provided with the kit. The metal is cheap and soft, and the bolt heads are prone to stripping. Further, when I was half finished assembling my second chair, I found that one of the embedded swivel nuts had a screw jammed into it at the factory, making it unusable. I haven't finished building because of this, but it looks like the chair will need to be non-foldable because that joint will have to be made rigid.

Had my first pair for two years - left outdoors and held up wonderfully. Just bought two more for a patio area ...
Stained mine with an Ipswich Pine gel stain, then overcoated with a 1:1:1 mix of linseed oil:spar urethane:mineral spirits. Has a traditional golden brown finish. Had my first pair for two years - left outdoors and held up wonderfully. Just bought two more for a patio area I just bricked in. Comfortable and affordable. The people complaining about durability must either have assembled them wrong or weigh over 250#.Update over two years later. Bolts need occasional tightening, wood may need to be overcoated again, but these have held up very well to the water and sun. If you want to pay $200-300 for other adirondack chairs go right ahead. These are holding up great for 1/5 of the cost and look better than the plastic chairs. Complaints about the assembly of these are misguided. Stain and overcoat before you assemble the chair and you will have a beautiful looking chair that will last for years.

Love it!
Easy to put together although it does take a while because nothing is even partially put together. I know some chairs come with the backs and seat already built but this one does not. But it all worked out great and I love it. It is on the smaller size, not much smaller than my other Adirondack chair…but a bit. I like that as it makes it easier to fold up and store away.
