Snake Eyes (Blu-ray + Digital)

Nicholas Cage and Gary Sinise as well as the entire cast give an outstanding performance in this adventure set in Atlantic City. I really liked the plot and directing in this movie. Lots of little nuances to grasp. The ending isn't supposed to be sad, yet somehow to me it was. Maybe it was because there wasn't an extreme change in Santoro, but that is actually just another thing that made this movie good. Change doesn't happen easily or quickly and sometimes not at all. And perhaps Santoro didn't change so much as he simply let out some of the qualities he possessed all along without realizing it. I highly recommend this thoroughly entertaining movie.

Snake Eyes was a crime thriller featuring Nicholas Cage as corrupt cop Detective Rick Santoro. During a heavyweight boxing championship in Atlantic City the Secretary of Defense Charles Kirkland is shot and Santoro investigates what happens. There are twists and turns and along the way you get some of that wild Nick Cage.Most of the film is a police procedural as Santoro talks to people, goes over video footage, etc. The investigation leads to the powerful, which is where things get interesting.Overall Snake Eyes is a decent crime drama. You get a little crazy Cage at the start during the boxing match which is always good to see. The boxing however is horrible. The investigation is interesting, although you could predict the end.C

It's not terrible, let's start there. One would have to imagine that Mr. Cage is pretty uncontrollable as an actor and so his outre choices, especially in the first thirty minutes, don't help matters. We get a show-off opening twenty minutes, then we have Rashomon for another twenty as we see the events from different points of view. It's fun in a way and it remains fun until about the hour mark. Then it just goes on until its unsatisfying ending. It's not a complete disaster (still a box-office bomb) like all of his recent films, and it's certainly well shot and has a good score. Cage is simply annoying and so you can't really root for him, which, of course, is a problem. But there are those people for whom Mr. De Palma's borrowings and excesses are pure cinema heaven.

Come on it is an action packed 25 year old Jean Claude van Damme movie! Yes cheesie, plot is OK but lots of action. Great entertainment. If you have never seen it, well worth the watch for action packed mindless entertainment. If you haven't seen it in years and years also worth the rewatch.

I would have given it a 5 star rating, but there were weakness in movie plot. There were a multitude of incongruities like, Cage overplayed his tarnished cop routine, and yet followed everything as if he were Columbo. This change of character was found in all of the people. It made what could have been excellent 5 star into a nearly a 3 star.

A corrupt cop uncovers a rigged boxing match, a conspiracy to commit murder, and defense contract fraud. He is forced to find the true north of his moral compass when he has to save a young whistleblower from his murderous best friend. A tense, fast-moving thriller that shows the range of Nicolas Cage's talent.

A good suspense movie. Great acting. My only gripe-why would the Navy be involved in a ground-based missile defense system? I suppose it's the uniforms. Gage is very good-bravo.

A fun movie if you're looking for a little 90s nostalgia. Gratuitous blood scenes. Over the top drama. The best parts for me are the old tech. Nothing like seeing how plot twists used to work around VHS "evidence" and no internet. Fun movie all around.

briliant film

Brian De Palma (Scarface, Carlito's Way) and his trademark long, unbroken camera shots are in their element here. The long shots add great tension to the scenes and a dark plot is uncovered concerning a new missile defence system for the United States.Gary Sinise brings his usual masterful performance, augmented by some late-90s Nicolas Cage action -- you can't top this for entertainment.

It`s unconventional and maybe a bit old fashioned,as the film is carried by its strong acting performances,good directing,and great soundtrack. Cage is perfect as the corrupt cynical cop who finds he has a moral limit. Cage & Sinise (& Kevin Dunn!) have been in some good films but nowhere have they seemed more real or impressive-It`s an actors film not an FX film.I wish they`d make a few more like this.
