Take Two: Above the Line, Book 2

Definitely NOT her best work!
I was a bit surprised when this book came to an end. Normally Karen Kingsbury's books are each a stand alone book that can be read whether you've read or intend to read any other book in whichever series you are reading. I guess if I'd had the paperback in my hand I would've been more prepared but I read this one on my Kindle so I felt like it came to an abrupt end that I wasn't expecting.I didn't care for the storylines. There is too much going on and none of it has depth. I guess you're supposed to feel sorry for Chase that Kelly wants him home more instead of off following his dreams of film making. But I can say if my child broke her arm that seriously and was headed into surgery I would expect my husband home on the next plane! Not considering coming home after meetings the next day! There are times when family absolutely comes first and Chase is being selfish! I also don't like Chase being tempted by Kendall when he supposedly had such a rock solid marriage with Kelly and blindly not seeing that he's turning to a woman not his wife. Really? What happened to the Christian theme here?I'm sick of the whole Bailey/Tim/Cody triangle when it's totally obvious where it's going to end up. And Andi.... well, college girls make some mistaken decisions but it's not realistic that Andi would go head over heels into her obsession with Taz after her first experience at the party. The whole novel just didn't flow together right in my opinion. It was all over the place, too much fluff and not enough depth. It was obvious Karen was wanting to get on and write Shades of Blue (which she mentioned in her afterward that she had been longing to write for three years!) Glad I already have Take Three to read. If I had to wait a couple years for the follow-up to this drivel it might've been enough to turn me off to Karen Kingsbury!

Best book anyone can relate too
So many families end in divorce because they one forget how and why they fell in love and they forget to keep God in the marriage. So many families are taking care of a family member who has a disability like Cerebral Palsy that they stress out and it can take a toll on the marriage. When We Were Young takes two people that fell in love but forgot how they fell in love back to where it all began and what it would look like in the future how their kids responded to the fact of having divorced parents is a tear jerker but anyone can relate too

God vs the World
The reason I chose the 3 star rating was that I haven't found this series as riveting as the "First Born series or the Sunset series. I have fallen in love with the Baxters . I feel like they're almost like family. The Above the Line series characters have been harder to get to know. Having said that as I've finished reading book 2 in this series I find myself experiencing a gamut of emotion. From being frightened for Andi's wrong choices & where it will lead to Kelly's refusal to surrender to God. When I look at what is happening in our world I am grieved. Hope in Jesus Christ is always there. It's never too late for redemption! I get so excited about this in real life I want to jump up & down & say " Yay God!!"So guess what? I have to read book 3. I know I will be thrilled with what God will do!

Karen Kingsbury never disappoints!
The thing I love about Karen Kingsbury's books is that they are very well written, about real-life situations, real families with problems that they must work together to overcome, they aren't trashy, even when they involve romantic interests, and they link into the characters we come to love in her other stories. It's like getting to know a whole community the more of them you read! I liked this series because it takes some very real temptations, ambitious goals, and shows how one person's decision can bless or destroy things they love, and also that there is always love and forgiveness and a way back when we make mistakes, even if the results of our choices cannot always be changed. I love how naturally God fits into these people's lives and shows an example of how that can be real. Excellent reading!

Life-changing books
Karen Kingsbury provides another example of great story, real people and christian living. The Baxter family extends beyond the previous books into a new role of supporting characters. New families started in Take One share their personal struggles, their relationships with Jesus Christ, and their realistic conclusions. Passages from the Bible in these books are often easily translatable to your daily life. Be ready to highlight, use post-its and grow. Thank you, Karen. Your books have all been life-changing.Always helpful to start with the first book of her series, Redemption. But her series is broken up into four sub-series each starting with a single title which does a great job of giving any necessary back-story. Look for Redemption, Fame, Sunrise or Take One as good places to start.

Inspiring
I loved the straight forward profession of faith in Jesus Christ in this novel! The characters seemed real to me. So real that I wanted so much to talk to them! This was an experience of empathy and God's true ability to touch deep into our souls if we are listening and receptive!
