A small adult "could" sit on it, but i wouldn't recommend you buy it for that purpose. I can confirm it is sturdier than many of its type.

I have a large glass table top to protect the leather. Any suggestions on how to weatherproof the steel as hoping to use outdoors most of the year?

Paint waterproof varnish clear over it. Or clingfilm cheap way.
