Humans, Season 1

It was an interesting concept that robots have human like features and mental capacity. Sadly, this is what our world has come to. I tell people not all technology is good.

Robots will be the new cell-phone, whipped dog, and assault victim.
What's the real, human, reason why we as a culture want to have a robot doing service in our house or neighborhood? Why do we have this compulsion that the robot MUST duplicate a human being in every visual way? And why the predominant preference that the robot be female much more than it be male?No program, documentary, or sci-fi flick before, has been so frank and street-level practical about the unspoken issues we as human beings are really likely to struggle with, when robots are our everyday property.Even the venerable Isaac Asimov novels I read in high schcool, nor P. Dick's hailariously insighful book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, didn't look at the robot as a gadget for the common schnook and his family. Finally, 'Humans" DOES. And does it without the trendy laser guns and flying-car action that gets too childish for some of us, and without any of the high-brow ultra-tech yack-yap that is too sci-fi cerebral for lots of us.Humans is, like your first three sips of a good strong summer ale. Wow… you just woke up!There are "ways", we are going to "use" our robots, that, if it was being committed on a pet dog or cat, would be viewed as perverted or morally indecent, or would downright get us thrown in jail.…..But,…if it's a robot specifically made to symbolize a human,… what? Are those actions suddenly okay and acceptable?….Tough questions. We're human beings--we know we are going to do "these things" to our robot property. We just have avoided talking about such things. The cleverest thing this tv series, is that "Humans" never asks these questions, not straight to your face. But you watch these characters in such base, down-to-earth scenarios, and you actually start facing these questions in your mind! I actually found myself looking over and staring at my girlfriend while we watched one of the episodes together (you'll guess which episode I mean, if you watch the show)----and thinking to myself, 'I'd break my girlfriend's heart, if I did something like THAT in our relationship,Watching this with your spouse, or grandparents, or even with your level-headed teenagers in the room, can start some eyebrow-raising arguments, right in the room! This is a social path for human beings that REALLY needs to be thought out BEFORE we have robots on the store shelf the same way we have iphones. I'm glad it's not something that will be here in my lifetime---it's a reality for my grandchildren to have to tackle.Season-2 and 3 follow a thriller-mystery that surrounds these poor robots. Buy them only if you are hooked into finding out their eventual fate. But you MUST see Season-1!!Season-1 is less about the robots themselves, and more about US, the humans who have brought these robots into our lives, and it provokes SUCH funny feelings and discussions in your living room. Trust the British to make a film that's plain and frank on a subject.Dare to watch this DVD with your loved one or family, and start facing some hard questions about who we are, and what kind of bad habits we always seem to be carrying with us into these progressive stages of our future.

Best Blind-Buy I've Ever Made
I bought this Blu-Ray as a blind buy, and it is -- without question -- the best blind buy I've ever made.I've never seen the original series this was based on, but I have seen Blade Runner and its influences are felt here. Dramatically, it's compelling to the point that I (a hardcore science fiction junkie) and my wife (who doesn't like TV) felt compelled to watch the entire series in the space of two nights. This is a drama, not an action-adventure, and it does a superb job of telling a story while staying grounded. It is one of the very best science fiction shows on TV (I'd put it in my top 5) and I cannot wait to watch the second season when the uncut UK episodes come to Blu-Ray.As far as the picture quality, it's about as close to perfect as you can get on Blu-Ray. Splendid colors for an expertly-shot series. The audio mix isn't showy, but the high quality is appreciated for the magnificent score that underlies the series. Special features are interesting enough, though likely not something you'll go through more than once. I do wish the Channel 4 "Persona Synthetic" advertisement made it on the Blu-Ray, as that would have been a nice easter egg. (You can look it up, as well as a new one promoting Season 2 on YouTube if you're so inclined.)If there's anything negative to say (there isn't) it's that I wish there was more!Parental note: throughout the series there are a couple of f-words and sexual situations, as well as some mild violence. That said, there is no graphic nudity or violence.

One of the Best Series Created
Originally, I found this series on a streaming app. One episode and I was hooked. It is a novel, fresh take on AIs, and surpasses previous robot stories. It is a look into a possible future where some "Synthetics" think beyond what they were created for and become a threat to humans.I am fascinated by the concept of creating a set of basic characteristics, mannerisms and traits for the synths so all of them will act/react the same. The combination of the development of story lines, great actors and locations make this a believable and addicting series. The situations seem realistic and the actors are top-notch.If you're interested in science fiction genre, how a possible future is envisioned, then view this series. You won't be disappointed.

Fantastic series with an interesting plot and believable scenarios.
I first discovered this series thanks to Amazon Prime. Ordinarily, I may have passed on it because it certainly isn't a new concept. However, this is a spot-on Sci-fi thriller/drama that takes on a very realistic approach on how evolving technology continues to shape our lives... for better or worse. After watching just 4 episodes, I decided to purchase the entire series (Humans and Humans 2.0) on Blu-ray Disc because it's simply that good. This is yet another example of how offering original and free content can often lead to a huge following and ultimately future purchases.I really hope we will see a Season 3 in 2018!

Definitely a worthwhile buy
Definitely worth getting this one; loose story is in the future people have androids to help them with their regular lives. I don't want to give away any of the specifics of the story other than to say they start to gain consciousness. The acting is pretty good, the storylines are very engrossing and they do a really good job of moving back and forth between the stories of the main characters.I really hope they do a continuation of this series, not sure if future episodes were approved or not.The other upside is hours of Gemma Chan....how can you go wrong with that?

Entertaining
Having seen the original, Swedish version, and the fact is 90% of the time British TV does it better this was one of the remaining 10%. There were several relationships of various kinds that were not in this, relationships that make the story more riveting than this version, this version was also a little sleazier. As for this version on it's own merits it was very good and worthy of the rating I have given it. Worth the price of admission, so to speak.

the writers have some excellent insights into human culture and behaviours
Huge fan of this series, the writers have some excellent insights into human culture and behaviours. I have had friends who don't generally watch TV become hooked on this series, as well as others who are avid TV viewers equally impressed. It's really thought provoking, very well acted with an excellent cast & well scripted. Love it.

Brilliant Bristish series. Set in the not to distant future where incredibly lifelike robots are the norm. It explores humans relations and what it means to be human in a very thoughtful and original way. Suspenseful and emotionally moving at the sametime and the actors are fantastic.
