Basix Recorder Method: Book & Online Audio (Basix(R) Series)

I picked up the recorder again recently just for fun and to play an instrument. This book is easy to follow and describes finger placement clearly. The songs offered in the book are of a wide selection and progress neatly as you learn more notes. The CD is also a great help for making sure the player is in tune. Overall, I'm quite pleased with this purchase.

This book is probably great if you want to learn the soprano recorder, but....you need to know that even though the cover seems to show other sizes, the text does not cover anything but the soprano.

In the last few months I have developed an interest in learning how to play musical instruments. Even at my advanced age I am always seeking new and interesting challenges. I had purchased a number of musical instruments (Harmonica, Chinese Flute (Dizi), recorder, Flutophone and Kazoo) from Amazon along with numerous music instruction manuals. “The Basix Recorder Method” by Morty Manus was one of these basic guides. This 64 page instruction manual also included a CD with songs and exercises to further improve your recorder playing.This manual covers an enormous amount of material and to get the most out of it you must actually study and practice with your recorder as you read the text. This manual explains how to master the basic skills playing the recorder, along with how to choose a recorder, how to produce sound, how to practice and numerous other essential facts to guide you. It teaches the basics of reading music, how to play the notes on the recorder and has numerous basic songs to practice your skills. It may be because of my age but I found learning to play the recorder and other musical instruments somewhat of a challenge; nevertheless, by following the manual step by step I am making good progress.If you are considering taking up the Recorder, this instruction manual can help guide you; however, it is best to get some basic instruction from a music teacher in order to completely understand all the material.Rating: 4 Stars. Well written and easy to follow along with the CD, I bought this book three years ago and practiced on my own with the CD for about a year, and for the past two years, I have been performing and playing the recorder in a band with various other instruments.

As a one time music major, I found the book wellwritten and all one needs for basic finger learning.Greatly enjoy playing along with the CD.highly recommended.

No CD came with my book!! Very upset. I ordered it because it said "Book & CD" in parenthesis. Very upset.

I was satisfied with the book. It teaches notes and begins with simple songs and progresses to a little bit more difficult songs. I liked being able to play along with the cd.
