Great for Calligraphy and Kanji Lettering
I bought the Medium nib thinking it would be great for taking notes. Unfortunately I did not like how broad the strokes were when writing English lettering on my note pages. But when I switched to writing larger Kanji on my notepad, it flowed great and had a wonderful feeling!I ended up also purchasing the fine tip nib. That one was amazing and wonderful. All in all, LAMY makes such a great pen with such a wonderful feel in the hand, I use these daily. The ink runs so quickly, that I have to plan ahead and travel with extra ink, but the final product in the writing implement is really nice.Details:-The cap pops on and off easily with a small seal to keep the tip from drying out. Better than some of the other brands that require twisting the cap 5-6 rotations to remove it. It has a satisfying pop? click? as it is removed and replaced.-The clip is nice for sliding this pen into an inside jacket pocket. It is not suited for the front pocket of your jeans. I find that if I leave it in my front pocket, the metal on the clip will bend beyond its typical range and then be left open without a strong clip. It is hard to remove the clip to bend it back. Difficult, but not impossible. Better to prevent the over-bend from the beginning.-The Pen has a little window that lets you see the amount of ink remaining. Really convenient.-The length of the pen is perfect for my hand. It feels light, but not too light. Just about right for writing for an extended period of time.-The sculpted are above the nib is perfect for orienting the pen automatically as I write. My other fountain pens require me to start writing before I realize the angle of my nib. (I could put on my glasses and look more closely, but the LAMY let's me do it by feel! All in all, I am enamored with this pen. I bought my first one on a whim at the airport gift store. Now I am hooked.

Well made and comfortable
Fits my hand perfectly. Easy, smooth flow nib. I have a large collection of old and new fountain pens, and this is the easiest writing pen of all.A pleasure to use. Nib is not too broad to use for everyday writing. A great price too. Fun going back 60 years.

Fun pen, but not the best
The pen is really fun to use and looks cool, but it is not smooth at all and does not write well on some papers

Broads are the best
I love these Lamy fountain pens. I own a 60 dollar one and three of these cheaper ones and use them all. (Sometimes all at the same time...I'm a little weird...) I used to just use the Broad tips because a broad is always better than a medium. (One you can have a good time with, one can read your fortune and give you bad news...)I don't think there is much difference in these Lamy pens between a broad or a medium tip. The broads are not as broad as the more expensive Waterman pens, but the medium is not a weak and thin as a some mediums are.The only issue is, being steel-tipped they do eventually wear out under heavy use, unlike the gold or platinum tips on more expensive models. The cartridges are reasonable too, even if, on these Safari's a bit hard to load. I have exploded one in my hands before trying to get the damn cartridge to puncture through and set in place. damn it. Just be patient. These are well engineered fountain pens, though. I wish there were some Waterman equivalents but I haven't found any.

My favorite pen - in bold.
I have a couple of very nice fountain pens, but this is my favorite to write with. I prefer the broad nib.

Love the Pen...Hate the Packaging
The pen is great...it's just what I was expecting. The way the pen was packaged, on the other hand, was not what I was expecting. No box. No instruction or warranty information. Just the pen thrown into a padded mailer. Look...I get it...it is an inexpensive plastic fountain pen. However, in a world of clones, copies and knockoffs, it would be nice to see the original packaging that the pen comes with so I know I'm getting a genuine product.
