This item does not come with an instruction booklet or solution guide. But you can certainly find videos on youtube which provide guidance.

Q: Is this the same as the gear cube? Besides the fact that it's a ball?

Yes, it is a stickerless shapemod, even though the shape doesnt add any changes to how to solve or move the puzzle, it somehow made it turn better. So yes, it is just the ball-gear cube.

just the gear ball in astetically pleasing packaging.

Q: Do you solve it like a 3x3?

No, while its base structure is identical the gears add a bandaging which changes the way the puzzle is solved.in my opinion it is easier then a regular 3x3 rubiks cube
