Surrealism

These books are an incredible deal for any art lover. High quality printing and solid scholarship...Oh, and lots of pretty pictures!!!!!!!!!!

I have several of these Taschen books and they are all pretty good and have good full page reproductions. This one has a slightly smaller format and is thinner than the others that I own (Miro, Kandinsky, Rothko, Gauguin). It does have some very good reproductions in it. Nothing surprising but what it does have is good. And the introduction and texts accompanying the images are also quite good. Here are the artists included: Arp, Bellmer, Brassai, de Chirico, Dali, Delvaux, Ernst, Giacometti, Klee, Lam, Magritte, Masson, Matta, Miro, Oppenheim, Picasso, Ray & Tanguy. It would have been nice if they could include more women Surrealists like Dorothea Tanning, Leonor Fini, Leonora Carrington, Dora Mar, Lee Miller, Kay Sage and Toyen. I also got the Surrealism book by Mary Ann Caw which does include more of the lesser represented Surrealists. But for what it is this is a good book to own if you are interested in Surrealist art.

This was a great introduction to the genre of surrealism and some of its most prominent artists. I'm glad that they included a few names that I wasn't previously familiar with.
