I need a remote switch for this, but it is confusing on which one I need. I want it as simple as possible.

I used the Mini Remote 8 Scene, model #2342-222...I programmed the left 4 buttons for OFF, LO, MED, HI for the fan and the right 4 buttons the same for the light controller (i.e., OFF, LO, MED, HI - you cannot use one button for varying the light level since you have to put the Mini Remote into a mode known as "Always On" rather than "Toggle" mode to run the fan levels)...works well this way however since 3 levels are plenty! If you only want to control the fan, you could use the 4 Scene Mini Remote.

Does require having insteon bridge to connect it to the app?

Yes. The Insteon bridge is required to connect to the app.

Can this unit handle the load of 2 fans with 2 light kits?

this item installs in the canopy of the Fan/light so for that answer it has to be no. Additionally, I will add that if you are trying to install this as part of a Z-wave install (specifically Vera to Insteon), DON'T! It does not work as it should. Instead go with the Leviton switch (Leviton VRF01-1LZ Vizia RF). It just works and works well and can handle the load you are asking about (1.5 amp and 3 way capable).

Can you use iphone to control fan?

Yes you can; however, you will need to get controler so it can communicate with the iphone app. You will need something as simple as the insteon hub or as powerful as the ISY994i (This is the one I have). It depends on how many devices you want to use, etc.
