As a Chinese, I am embarrassed to say I didn't know about Xian and his contribution to calligraphy. :D This story is education and informative, and Nadia Hsieh's illustration beautifully merged traditional Chinese brush painting style with her own, making it modern and yet still unmistakably Chinese. Well done!

We enjoyed reading this non-fiction picture book about the origins of Chinese calligraphy. It also shows with hard work, determination, and persistence one can achieve goals by staying the course. The illustrations are beautiful and complement the text. Great color palette and richly textured art. This would be great for school libraries, the classroom, and home libraries. Great for kids interested in the art of calligraphy. Highly recommend.
