Lew's Speed Cast 5.3:1 Right Hand Casting Reel, Black/Gold

This is a really nice reel. It casts super smoothly and far. It also looks great, I love the thumb bar instead of the standard button that most bait casters have. The only issue I have with this reel is that for whatever reason the thumb bar doesn’t engage every time. When you throw the line out and go to add line tension the thumb bar doesn’t engage so it makes the handle just free spin without actually retrieving the line. If lews could fix this issue than this would be the best catfish reel I have.

This reel is light weight but tough. Easy to cast and is as smooth as silk. Nice drag and I like the thumb placement bar on top of the reel. Very good quality for the price.

I have several Lews so my expectation was high for this round reel. I was immediately impressed with how smooth it is the easy spool release and instant pickup. I loaded it with 80 lb super braid and set it up on my favorite 7 ft med-heavy saltwater casting rod. I tied on a 1/4 oz soft bait just to see if it could handle a light lure. I casted down wind and up wind and with minor spool adjustments it was able to outcast my older round reel. I bought it for bait fishing, really like the easy clicker, and have no doubt it will handle anything I catch. I'm happy with it and especially at the price, will be getting another one.

I have 10 of these set up on Big Cat Fever medium heavy rods for catching big blue cats. I am very hard on my tackle and these things seem to be bomb proof so far after a year of hard use. They all still work like they did brand new. Very happy with them.

I bought two of these and tried them out right away fishing for catfish. Both worked great using 25lb line and 3 oz weights. Casts great and handled 5lb fish well. I am anxious to see how they do with much bigger cats. I wanted an alternative to the $200 Abu Garcia reels. I am not a pro but this reel seems like it will do well for my recreational use. Also Lews stands behind their product. I recently had a new crappie rod tip break on the first use. They sent me a new one within a couple of days with no hassle. I will be buying a couple more of these reels.

Disappointed in the product as far as casting distance. I tried several lure sizes and played with the drag a bit. I was using an 8'6" rod and when trying to cast for distance it would easily backlash on any setting but the heaviest, which slowed it down so much I couldn't get more than about 40 yard with braided #30. I wasn't very happy to see MADE IN CHINA. I must be remembering the old Lews. The reel is smooth and retrieves nicely. It might cast better with a shorter rod, maybe the rod is too long and over speeds the reel.

I've only gotten to use it a couple times, but so far I'm very impressed with this reel. I use it for trolling inshore lakes for walleye, white bass, etc. It is very smooth, has a great drag and the level wind works perfectly. On top of that, I feel it is very attractive. I was fortunate and was able to get mine at considerable discount, but believe it is a good value at the normal price. This reel is as good, or better than some of my Quantums or Ambassadeurs. If it proves as durable as I think it will, this will be a great addition to my collection.

Bought to try out, nice budget reel. Ended up landing a 27# catfish. Ide say its well worth it!

I received this lews bait casting reel and have now loaded it up with different types of line for the coming fishingseason and it looks and feels like real good quality. I have not had a chance to use it yet as still winter here butwill at be at it as soon as i can.
