This book is an essential read to those who are stuck in the routine and looking for best practices. It will open your eyes to the opportunities lying in wait throughout your organization. I found this read extremely helpful - even after multiple passes - and would recommend it to both new and seasoned financial professionals

Not a complete guide for all finance department matters, but a practical guide with ideas that may be generally useful.

I was hoping to find a more “technical” book, but the insights shared here are really interesting. I recommend it.

very informative and updated

Much of the advice is aimed at large manufacturers and it seems highly inflexible in insisting that something is a best practices for all controllers/CFOs. A lot of the best practices would be crazy to implement for professional services or consulting firms.For example, all discussion about 4/4/5 financial quarters completely ignores the existence of businesses whose customers operate on a calendar basis. The author does not even seem to acknowledge businesses with customers who are on long-term contracts that stipulate monthly payments. It feels like everything is about forecasting one-off sales of widgets.The technology advice feels like it is from the 20th century. I was curious about “payment cards” which are touted as cutting-edge technology until I realized they are just ATM cards.A better title for the book might be “Redesigning Financial Reports for Manufacturers and Retailers”. I say this because the author does not really offer tools about how a controller can reengineer day-to-day accounting processes beyond simplistic advice like reducing paperwork in favor of digital documents. Instead, it focused almost entirely on month-end and year-end closing processes and the associated financial reports.

I came across the book when I was making a research about Kaizen, Lean, 6 Sigma and their implementation in the Finance department. This book covers not only how to make your finance organization lean and fast but also explains and provides you with the tools and templates to implement them. I had never seen such a book giving this much emphasis to implementation. Reading the book is like walking through your daily life at your office. I believe that the reason lying behind this is that Mr. Parmenter himself is a finance professional and has received input from many other finance professionals throughout his career. The writer is helping us, the finance professionals, with his book and additional resources. The details are in the book and Mr. Parmenter's website.

Good book but I was misled to believe that I had paid for a Toolkit I am an expert VBA programmer (MS CS and Administration EE Dept. Stanford U 1973/1974) and a professor of Advanced Project and Companies Valuatios with Montecarlo methods at a local college where I teach. I am a Stanford Alumni and for a time I had jobs at the Silicon Valley. If any of the readers of this comment wants to share his/her opinions with me I will be glad to read them in this website.
