The media could not be loaded.  I am impressed with the detail that this book goes into the dress of the 19th century. I wanted something that could teach me the silhouette of every decade in the 19 century and this definitely does it it also includes accessories! The only thing is it would’ve been better if the paper was glossy and if it was in color but even with regular paper and it being in black-and-white it’s still really good detail and if you’re interested in 19 century fashion this is definitely the book for you! It’s very comprehensive!

I love this book for researching historical fashions. It doesn't lump the years all together, but takes you to each year showing and telling how the fashion was different than the year before.

This is a fabulous reference book. But why did they not print the colour plates in colour? Are there any copies of the 1937 edition available?However, this 1990 edition is an excellent book

Really good historical coverage of costuming. A long read but well worth it. Good illustrations as well to let you see what the fashions looked like along the spectrum of day to evening.

This book is very detailed with commentary on all garments worn by a woman in the 1800's.

What I love about this book is that it includes multiple sources; extant pieces in museums, portraits, and written sources from various lady's magazines. It also has helpful timelines, a glossary of materials/fibers, and a glossary of technical terms. Very comprehensive. Well documented and well illustrated.Also, it's a Dover reproduction (originally published in 1937).

Being a docent for Virginia City, NV, we dress anywhere from 1859 to early 1900's and also wear western cowboy. I prefer to make my own costumes and this book gives me lots of ideas. I want to make sure that my outfits are authentic and this book helped me a lot.

1117のイラストと460ページという厚さの割にはお値段の安さ、19世紀の服飾を網羅してるということでで購入してみましたが、イラストよりも文字の多さに挫折してしまいました。（もちろん各ドレス、ヘアスタイル、アクセサリー（靴や装飾）についての説明なのですがが…）ファッションプレート等で、これでもかと豊富なイラストを見てきたものには肩透かし。全身像より頭部（のファッションの）数でイラスト数を多くカウントしてるのかも。このカンジは、そう「服飾事典」！！（図解もあるけど小さいし緻密度ではファッションプレートに1歩ひくカンジの）
