Wonderful book! Wish I'd read this years ago!
As I read Thirteeners I thought of the companies I'd worked for in the past in the context of the principles in this book. I wish they all had been following this wisdom. Despite management proclamations of goals and mission statements, we were never aligned in a common purpose. It was always "us and them." There was little accountability or connectedness or creating a future not based upon the past. Goals were incremental.I own a small company now and I'm creating a whole new future as a result of reading this book, a future not based on "what's going to happen anyway," but on what I say is possible. The idea of identifying "what's missing" instead of "what's wrong" is one of the best aspects of the author's suggestions. It removes blame and so, timid action. When we set goals now and review our progress we can see what's missing, make promises to take the actions needed, and work together with accountability for an exciting result.Great book! Wish I'd read it years ago.

this is the one book you should read if you want to produce results in the world, business, personal or professional
This is perhaps the best leadership book I have read in the past 10 years. Prosser knows his stuff and it comes from his personal, on the court leadership experience over 30 years, not academic theory. it is our thinking as leaders that determines our success and happiness and Prosser nails it with great examples, insights and connect the dots, step by step action steps you can take to produce results in your company and live a happier, emotionally healthier life. If i could only read one book in the next year this would be the one that will give me the information and action steps I need to relate to myself and others in healthier, more positive ways and thereby produce results beyond what my past based thinking would allow. my unasked for advice: take the opportunity to work with Prosser any way you can. he will help you produce results in both business and most importantly, personal terms.

If you read one book on Leadership - Let this be the one!
This book is truly unique! In a world of content overload about every topic imaginable, the idea of another business book on leadership did not create a burning desire within me to read it - however, the utter respect I had for the people who recommended it to me, and the first few pages, quickly altered my context for why this was THE BOOK, I needed to read now!As a person who has owned companies and worked for many other companies, both large and small - I couldn't help but think how different my experiences and success would have been if these organizations (including the ones I created) operated from these overlooked and undeniably powerful principles. If you can only read one book on leadership - let this be the one! It will make that kind of difference in your organization.

Prosser has the right vision and a plan to help you get there.
Most successful transformations share two common characteristics: a clear mission that is supported by employees, and relentless execution (supported by a great plan, of course). In Prosser's Thirteeners, Daniel not only explains why it's important but how to build and lead that engaged workforce and promise-keeping system. Most importantly, he challenges readers to inventory their own behavior against a set of clear measures that will help leaders improve their own engagement and become one of the 13% of companies that are able to make a successful transformation.

An original point of view, highly recommended
This is an original premise based on research, with many very practical suggestions for creating concrete progress and results. It is a unique view of what drives success. Very different, and yet very consistent with other research. Highly recommended.

Great source of tips
Written for CEOs mainly, but in my small company, anyone of us could have read this and got something from it. Easy to glean tips for anyone who works for a business that is small enough to make communicating and speaking the truth to power, possible.

Powerful Life Changing Read
I will read this book over and over again ... we have to remind ourselves on a regular basis how to think and therefore receive ...giving each of my 3 children and 2 other children very dear to my heart a personal copy ... it is my prayer that they read this now at an early age and continue to refer back to it throughout their lives ... thank you, Dan, for putting it all into words that make so much sense :) GR

The writer has a set of experiences and beliefs, ...
The writer has a set of experiences and beliefs, and his own set of "consulting-ese" jargon. It deteriorates into a harangue too often and after the first half, is not very helpful. The planning paradigm has limited use in my business experience of working in fairly healthy companies.

Much of the book was useful but I skipped through some parts
Having recently started working for a company that was growing rapidly and pushing through some fairly dramatic changes I used this book to give me some tips about how to get the changes to work and stick. More importantly, this book explores the reasons why change fails. There was a lot of analysis of leadership styles than I had expected - this was great as it made me look very closely at the style in play in my company which, at the time, what not what it should have been.I actually ended up giving the book to my boss and recommended that he adopt some of the strategies described. Many sections helped me, although I found that not all were relevant and it was easy to skip through these.
