Wow, these really are superior to the standard spray nozzles!
I read up on these after running across some rotary heads in Home Depot. I bought one at first to try it out, and wow, these really are superior to the typical heads. So now I've bought these to replace nearly all my lawn sprinkler heads.**What it is and why it's good**1. According to the manufacturer, retrofitting your standard spray nozzles with these R-VAN Adjustable Rotary Nozzles can reduce flow by up to 60% and improve water efficiency by up to 30%.2. Nozzle spray pattern and distance are easily adjusted by hand with no tools required.3. Thick wind-resistant streams ensure your water actually hits the ground instead of blowing away. R-VAN’s large water droplets cut through the wind so water stays in the target zone without misting or fogging.I've also bought some Rain Bird 18RN Mini Rotary Nozzles, and they are also good... and they are a little cheaper. However, they have a fixed pattern and you also need a screwdriver to adjust the force/distance of the spray. These R-VANs on the other hand are so handy in that you can adjust the radius and spray distance by hand. Check out my pics to see some images showing the 2 models of R-VANs and how they work.I always read reviews before purchasing, and find some quite helpful, so I hope you find this review helpful!

Rainbird R-Van - Super sprinkler heads
The R-Van sprinkler heads was a great investment. Heads were installed on Rainbird 1800 series bodies (~$10 for 5 at Rainbird) and are extremely easy to adjust (by hand) for both the pattern and distance. The heads have a built in rotary and cover the grass much better than I expected. Rainbird markets these by stating that they can reduce flow by up to 60% and improve water efficiency by up to 30%. Right now, I do not disagree. Soon after installing, it became quite apparent that rotary action (up and down, and distance) provided much better coverage than the rotary sprinklers I previously had. I have reduced the timer frequency by 30% and will be monitoring the coverage for any additional timer adjustments. Note that there are two different heads that are color coded for distance. The yellow (17-24 feet) and black (13-18 feet). I have one small area and found that I can adjust the distance to just a couple of feet (or less). The adjustment knob revolves inside of the body that connects to the sprinkler head. The arc (45-270 degrees) pattern is also simple to adjust by pushing down on the arc adjustment cap (yellow or black). Adjustments are done when the sprinkler is running.Lastly, the picture of the head is incorrect (as of this writing). You can see the correct picture at Rainbird: [...]

These are great adjustable sprinkler heads
These are great adjustable sprinkler heads. Excellent water savings, adjustability, quality. All of my heads have been replace with mini rotors and these VAN adjustables have made life so much easier where I had partial circular heads. I will not use anything else.

No discontent here!
I just installed several of the R-VAN1318 rotary heads. It is very important to note that the picture (as others have also pointed out) does not match the product. These heads have aluminum colored tops and are hand adjustable both for "spray" arc and distance. They are easier to use than the same heads with fixed arcs. It took me seconds to install them ,and no screw drives is needed. Just make sue you align the mark on the head with the left-most limit. I don;t often say this, but you wil love them! I'd just buy these, and stay away from the 90 and 180 degree heads.
