When I got the first one the dial was cracked, but amazon sent a replacement immediately. If you are a machinist and you don't like digital these calipers are pretty much the standard in the industry. You can go with SPI or Starrett but they are pretty much made overseas anyway and they cost more for the name.

This is not the cheapest dial caliper, nor the most expensive, but for the money, this is very impressive and accurate. The dial is also very easy to read.
