Q: I had to return a different brand tree. Does this timer remote turn back on the next day or do you have to turn on timer everyday?

Never have I used a timer, I set it up on an extension plug with other things and turn them off all at once.

Q: Is it normal for the lights to flicker when it's set on steady ? I'm just being sure nothing is wrong with it.

I only noticed the twinkle when it is in the fade mode. I had to send one back because it quit working after 1 week. What you doing and the replacement is all purely and they won't straighten out to look like a willow but the first one was nice and straight. Good luck
