Great pair of shoes!
I had my first run in with Salomon products in Europe when I decided to try skiing out. Everything was a rental from the boots (Salomon SX91, the bindings were Marker and the skis were K2) The boots fit like a glove and there were no pressure points at all on my feet.Forward to 2024, I ordered these XA PRO 3D Gore-Tex Trail Running Shoes to try on because the brand I was going with for my duty footwear kept changing their design and they finally ran out of the model that I liked so I figured I'd try these out. Amazon has this "try before you buy" program so I decided to go that route. These shoes are designed for on-road and off-road as they have an aggressive lug sole that is comfortable and a reassuring grip. The shoe is built well and has a comfortable sole. The lacing system is different and it didn't take long for me to like the speed lacing system that Salomon uses for their shoes. These shoes do need a bit of a break-in, about three days.I was impressed with this pair that I bought another pair to switch up for my uniform.Mar 31,2024 (update) I've had these (I bought 2 pairs) shoes now just short of 2 months and daily wear and I have to admit, other than the fact that it's a little on the small side (it broke in really well) I am still happy with my purchase and they're holding up well.

Salomon XA PRO 3D Gortex
This is an outstanding shoe. I've owned this model shoe since 2016.Comfortable, durable, weather resistant, excellent fit and breathable. There are other Salomon models, however accept no substitute.

Exceptional all around shoe
Overall, my favorite shoe. I've had a couple different generations of the XA Pro 3D GTX and keep coming back. They are my go to shoes for everyday wear whether it's to the office, the store, chasing after my kids, and nearly everything else. They're supportive and lightweight. The toe box has some coveting that offers light impact protection. The one attribute that is both good and bad is the extremely grippy tread. It's so grippy to the point it's squeaky when walking on tile indoors when they're even the slightest bit wet. At the same time, the tread offers confidence when trekking through mud, puddles, snow, and even light ice.My past iterations of this are also gore-tex and their water resistance wanes over time. The tread is also made from a soft rubber which tends to wear faster than most of my other shoes. If you're on the fence about it, just get it.

Probably worth the money
These shoes are really good. They look great and feel great. There is a break in period. For me it was about 10 miles. The only negative I have is the shoes are expensive. I would not gripe about the price tag if I believed the shoes were worth it in terms of durability. So far the shoes are holding up well but showing some signs of wear on the tread. That being said my expectations may be unrealistic. I am a 290lb. power lifter and I walk a lot. I average anywhere from 6-12 miles a day and sometimes as much as 30. I walk on on asphalt and concrete. I have had the shoes for a couple weeks and probably put about 250 miles on them. Despite being an awesome shoe I'm not sure they will last more than 2-3 months at this rate. However, due to my walking and my size most shoes dont. That being said I will probably by them again. I believe under normal conditions these should would last average individual a very long time. Also I think the drawstring lace up system is awesome.

Very good shoe. Love the laces.
It’s a good product, buying them for years but the multi layer soles wear out fast. The layer that comes in contact with the ground should be thicker and it’s not! Today’s price for the Gortex model is way over priced. $50 more for the same shoe. No way. I would give this shoe 5 stars if it weren’t what I mentioned because they fit well but the toe box should be A little more roomy.

I have been using these shoes for 16 years
My go to hiking and backpacking shoes for over 16 years. They are fully waterproof and reasonably comfortable. I absolutely love the lacing system. You can wear them untight when the terrain is easy and only tighten them up when going downhill on the difficult path. You can also wear them untight around the camp where they function pretty much like slippers. There are only two things I don't like about them:1. They have traditional nerrrow profile and salaman should definitely switch them into more natural AKA wide foot box2. In the past 5 years these shoes definitely become much less durable than they used to be and they lost maybe 200 miles before the soul is completely worn off and it's starting to develop breaks in the fabric where the shoe bends. This was not a problem with the previous generations.

Salomon Lace System Fails Quickly
Do not buy Salomon sneakers with their lace system. The quality has significantly deteriorated. Previously i bought similar sneakers (over 5 years ago) which continue to have no problems. I bought my current pair at the end of november 2024 (only 5 months ago) and the laces on both sneakers have failed. When i attempted to file a warranty claim, Salomon indicated that i had to file a claim with Amazon. I will not buy salomon sneakers again.
