Q: If i got it and used the pieces as a 1:1 reference could i make this out of brass or would the change in weight cause issues?

I've just finished scanning the plates for using them in a larger version in rosewood and bronze. I think the weight of the bronze (or brass in your case) will definitely change things and necessitate a stronger spring. Or you can reduce the mass by using a thinner brass sheet and then carving some voids... making it delicate and elegant. Why use brass? It will look terrible in a year or less... maybe use bronze, or "NuGold?" that's my plan... along with some exotic wood for the frame. Very cool that you want to take it further... just be aware that this work is copyrighted, and please respect that. The work that went into this model must have been immense. I'm going to use their mechanism in a larger project, but it will never be for sale. These guys deserve all the rewards for such genius work (it really is incredible). All the best to you... hope you come up with something amazing!

Q: Can you dismantle and build it again?

Yes, but very carefully, I had to do that also. Be very careful with the 'throw out bearing' assembly, (one with the little balls sandwiched between two disks) the balls will get a way from you. Suggest when you disassemble that part do so over a box. Also I used a lubrication stick the second time instead of the candle, better lubrication. Good Luck, it is very satisfying to see mine run with the motion.

Q: How long does it run once wound?

I feel everyone's pain on this topic. I used beeswax from England during assembly and when finished the clock would not run. The Tourbillion top is the part of the clock to concentrate on. Eventually I wound up lubricating as much of the moving parts in the top as I could get without disassembly using olive oil. I then concentrated on the positioning of levers i2 and i3 (page 45 of instructions) using a trial and error process. Eventually I did get the clock to run continuously for better than an hour. This is not a 24/7 timepiece.

Q: Can you order replacement pieces if one of them breaks?

Ugears are great with replacement parts. It just took awhile. With what’s going on over there now, I don’t know the parts might be.
