Make sure you're using butane and the right tip on the can that fits into your lighter. It comes out like an airisol so there shouldn't be any spills.

Not sure how much fuel, but about 6-7 long hot torches before you can tell it is low. Very hot, but not really torch worthy. Excellent for my use though.

What is the difference between black and upgraded black?

How you adjust it and lock it are different. I have the regular it works great.
