Love these!
I wanted casual bone china that you could put in a dishwasher and microwave. They also had to fit my color scheme at home. I looked high and low for dishes that would fit all boxes, especially BONE china that didn't have metal (gold or platinum) so I could put it in a microwave. Also, it needed to be affordable. This set and others by Mikasa were perfect!

It's certainly a beautiful and practical set...But...
I as a buyer always expect the best when spending my hard earned money or my valuable time. With that being said, when I rate a product I take into consideration many aspects, including possible flaws during the quality assurance phase of production and packaging. While I understand mistakes happen, there are certain ones that can not be allowed to happen. Specially if it can pose a safety issue. When I received my first totally sealed set (grateful that I got a replacement), my excitement about the product went away when I saw production flaws that were a safety issue (broken and sharp pieces were integrated in the surface of some of the plates). While this set is one of my favorite ones, very light, sturdy and dishwasher/microwave safe (I do not regret in any way acquiring it) and I received a replacement very quickly (with 2 broken mugs apparently during transit), I can not discard the fact that there must be better enforcement and execution in the QA department. Am I happy with my purchase? I am certainly happy, just completed my set with the good and undamaged ones and dumped the rest. The product itself should be a 5 star item...So if you like yellow flowers, this is for you. I know MIKASA would stand by its products and make it right for you.

My Family Absolutely LOVES These Dishes
I have tried to get a few sets of dishes for the family, but honestly, one thing or another seemed to not be right with them. We finally settled on a nice set of Mikasa Bright flowered dishes. The problem is that there was only a place setting for four. I wanted to supplement with other flowered dishes. These came up. I was instantly attracted to them.ARE THEY LIKE CORELLE?We used to have Corelle dishes which we liked because of the lightweight feel to them, and also that they were sturdy. The problem is that that line of dishes had designs that are not bright and flowery like we wanted. I gave up looking after a while. When I got these, I began to use them right away. I wanted to test them out. I have to say that these handle and perform just like the Corelle dishes and maybe even better.DESIGNThe design is GORGEOUS. It is not only cheerful and colorful, but the design itself is artistically pleasant.PLATESWhat my husband is thrilled with is that the edges of the plates are curved upward. This is important because as he puts it, if you happen to have any food on the plate that is juicy at all, the edges keep the juice from spilling over the edge when carrying the plate, or if you are sitting on the couch, etc and have it on your lap.BOWLSThe bowls are a great shape. They are plenty deep but they are also wide at the top. That means whether you have salad or soup, the food is accessible without issue and the soup will cool off faster with the wider top to it. They are the perfect shape and stack well in the cabinet.MUGSThe mugs are also a great shape. The one thing that surprised me about this mug is that it is very thin as in porcelain style thin. I figured that tea or coffee would cool of super fast. In contrast, it stays hot a lot longer than we expected. It is also the perfect size and shape. The handle is not hard to carry and is the right size for all our hands (very big to small) to use comfortably.STURDYI have used these for quite a few weeks now to really test them out. I have to say, these have Corelle beat by a mile. These are better designed and far more attractive than any of the Corelle dishes we have had or seen.THE BOTTOM LINEThese dishes are the best set of dishes we have had yet. They are lightweight, stack well, have great features and shapes and are quite resilient.MY RATINGFIVE STARS. We all fight over these dishes. I originally only put a few in the cupboard to test and they are used over all of the other dishes hands down. I finally brought out the entire set and retired the ones that no one is using anymore. We all absolutely love the design and type of dishes these are. I would totally buy another set.

Cheery sunflowers on elegant bone china! Excellent customer support.
We've had the same white, boring, HEAVY set of Ikea dinnerware for almost 20 years, so we were long overdue to replace them. Many were chipped, and the profile of the plates was an indented center with a fairly wide rim. That decreased the usable area of the plates, which kind of bugged me.When this set of Mikasa Sunflower dinnerware popped up, I knew it was the set we needed. And I was not wrong. Right after ordering, I was worried that the flowers would make these look like "grandma dishes" (no offense to grandmas out there), but something about the way the design is executed makes them cheery and fresh! These dishes, being bone china, are lightweight and translucent. The plates -- both dinner and salad -- are larger than I am used to, which is great. We eat small meals, so we actually use the salad plates as dinner plates! The shape of the bowls is perfect, and they too are larger than what I'm accustomed to.My husband says the coffee mugs are the perfect size for the 8 oz setting on our Ninja Coffee Bar. The mugs from our old set were too small, and he had to use the 4 oz setting. I love the clear bell-like ring of the china mug as my husband stirs his coffee! There was an issue with one salad plate and one dinner plate: both had a small rough/sharp area on one edge, due to a glaze issue (see photos #1 and #2). A quick call to Mikasa made it right, and they sent out replacements right away. I understand that these things happen. Mikasa dealt with the issue efficiently, so there's really no reason for me to deduct any stars. (Please see update below)UPDATE: We received the replacement dinner plate and salad plate, and were kind of shocked to find that the replacements have a different profile than the rest of the set. Both plates are wider and deeper, with a sharper curve to the lip. (See my third photo, which shows the Mikasa dinner plates stacked on top of our old Ikea dinner plates. The top plate is the replacement we received.)We were also disappointed in the overall unevenness of both the dinner and salad plates. See stacked photo above.Bottom line: Pretty bone china dinnerware from a reputable maker.[This is a review for Mikasa Sunflower Chip Resistant 16 Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4, Multicolor B00P2RQBBI]
