Hieros Gamos: (Sacred Union) A Confession

Can I strangle your hero?
I bought this book for some insight on the alchemical concept, Hieros Gamos. I had come across the idea while reading C.G. Jung. Disappointing. Some good historical context here. The plot is tortured by endless repetition of the main character's weakness--a psychological infantilism. As a character of interest, he falls short. When the sister appears a light dawns in the story, but, alas, the author turns back to tedious weaknesses of her "hero". Slim pickings for my taste.

Hieros Gamos- A Treasure
This is quite the saga. One is no longer just reading a well-crafted story set in an epoch long ago, but is actually transported there. I found myself tossing out thees, thous and come hithers around town whilst involved in reading this tale of a family's colorful life in 12th century England. The depth of research and the writers' skillfulness combine to allow you to actually see in your minds' eye the quill pen dip into the inkwell and return to the parchment where an account of tragic love unfolds. Lia's turn of a phrase and her ability to create tension and ( finally) release create a page turner with timeless significance. Drusiana's love letter that culminates this work of art is worth the price of admission. ( Do not turn there first!)Do however turn to the most excellent glossary and translation of Latin phrases. Bravo Lia!

Forbidden love of a 12th century English monk
Here is a gripping story of forbidden love related by a 12th century English monk. Historically accurate and convincingly narrated as the monk's confession, the story has all the force and poignancy of the lais of Marie de France. Highly recommended. John L'Heureux

Historicallly and emotionally engrossing.
I became totally involved in this story of a brother and sister living in an era of limited expectations for women in the time of the Crusades. Historically and emotionally engrossing.
