Beautiful and keeps my kid reading
My daughter has read this book to me over and over. She’s 6 but reads at a higher level and didn’t want anymore “baby books.” So, I got her this and she wants the whole series. I highly recommend it.

This is a great story! I'm excited for more books in the series. The balance of fantasy and school drama are excellent. I tutor elementary students and am recommending this book to all of them!

This is a fun, charming graphic novel about Cici, a little girl who wasn’t sure she believes in fairies ...
The tears began to fall as Cici’s Dad prepared to leave. There were many taped up boxes and even a couple of suitcases. “Remember,” he explained, “even if I don’t live here anymore, that doesn’t change how I feel about you.” A crescent moon lit up the night sky as her father began to drive away. Cici wasn’t quite sure what to believe when hugged her stuffie close as she sat on her bed. Was he really going to love her even when he was gone? Cici glanced at her parents bed, the one he hadn’t slept it and became angry. Very, very angryCici dashed out the door, ignoring her mother. When she arrived at school her best friend, Mia, was all excited about Cici’s upcoming birthday party. “Is you dad going to make homemade pizzas with us again?” Ummmm ... an invitation later came up to go to a party at Hazel Nelson’s, the perfect way to avoid talking about the divorce. When Cici ran home after school, she found something totally unexpected. “¡OYÉ! ¿Estás lista? ¡Estoy aqui!” No one wanted their abuela to move in at a time like this, especially a “wacky” grandma! Now with abuela moving in, Cici really had to make excuse so no one would come over to her house. Hazel’s party it had to be! “Mom ... can I go to Hazel Nelson’s party tomorrow night?” It was really going to be hard without Dad there for her tenth birthday, really hard. Later the next morning Cici tripped over the dog and something very unusual happened. “FOOOOMP!” A pair of pink wings had spouted from her back. My goodness, if anything could go wrong it was going to! What was happening to her? Cici dashed back into her room and slammed the door. The tears began to fall, but all of a sudden her abuela appeared beside the bed. “Shhh, ¡cáimate! Everything is fine.” No, everything was not fine because everything was wrong, wrong, wrong! Abuela threw back her arms and Cici’s eyes grew wide ... her abuela had a pair of fairy wings too! She began to tell Cici all about fairies and how there were many in her family. Cici would one day come into her powers, but there would be a choice that she’d have to make. Would she accept them when they arrived or would she choose to be a regular person instead? What was she ever going to do without her Dad in the house on her birthday? This is a fun, charming graphic novel about Cici, a little girl who wasn’t sure she believes in fairies. With the loss of her father in the house, poor Cici isn’t sure what to believe in, especially her wacky Abuela and those fairies. Her Abuela will give her a couple of days to decide, but what will she choose? Of course many little girls believe in and love fairies, making this the perfect graphic novel for the youngest readers. Cici is also experiencing unwanted change when her father leaves the home. She needs to learn to not only believe in herself, believe that her father will always love her, and, of course, discovering and uncovering her powers as a fairy. The panels are bright, animated, and very kid-friendly. This is the first in the “Cici: A Fairy’s Tale” series and is a Junior Library Guild Selection.Reading Level: 2Interest Level: 2 - 5This book courtesy of the publisher.
