I use the light weight red gamakatsu egg hooks #2. Or any other light wire hook. Eagle Claw hooks all seem to heavy and the bait won't float like you should want.

I would use and egg hook. Pushed through and out up so the hook is above the egg. The hook has to be out of the egg as it is harder than natural eggs. There is at least one video on you tube on how to hook them.
