Description

It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two founders decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

Wife reviews shoe with husbands first impressions

A few things before I start my review…Doc Martens are specially sized you do not wear your regular shoe size in a Doc Martin you will definitely have to go up or down depending on how your fit needs to be depending on the shape of your foot. I always size up as a rule and I see by most of the pictures the people that had the problems were people that foot was too big for the shoe. The telltale sign of that being that the shoe shape changes and warps. The other thing is the shoes are made to be worn with the Doc Martens Insole. They are made to be rubbed with the wax after each where. This you should slowly develop a darker color and a more rich leather appearance. If you see pictures of the shoe and the color is lighter or more matte it means that people did not wax them.About this for my husband because I wanted to shoot he could wear with a suit or a pair of jeans. These may be slightly too casual for a suit but you could definitely wear them with nice slacks and a button down shirt. Or jeans and a jacket. I think the doc Martens style yellow stripe is what makes this you see more casual. The fit looks good. No signs of bending or wrinkles in the shoes after months of wear. Must be the wax and the size we chose. I will definitely be going back for a pair of boots as well. As doc Martens is known most for their boots I feel like it’s a must. I’m really happy with the shoes. I know that his feet are healthy and his back is aligned in a quality shoe.- husband never bought this brand before and will buy againWife wins again!

Just as expected!

I've been wearing Dr. Marten shoes for over 20 years, so I know what to expect as far as fit, quality, and comfort. I've actually been wearing this particular shoe for a good 2 or 3 years, maybe longer. Unfortunately the store I would buy them from stopped carrying them. Luckily Amazon had them in stock about $10 less than Academy, where I would buy them before. These are some of the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn, which is why I keep going back. Like all Dr. Martens, I always feel like they are slightly too narrow the first time I put them on, but they break in well and within a day or two, they'll feel great. We are required to wear dress shoes at work, and I always walk 2 miles during my break, and I never feel fatigued, tired, or sore with these. I will continue buying them as long as they keep on making them.

Possibly the best investment I've made

These shoes could possibly be the best office accessory I've ever purchased. It took about a week for them to break in, but they were extremely comfortable from the start. I am on my feet most of the day working with school kids, and these have made my knees and lower back happy. I'm certain that with time, the damage I've done will begin to heal and I'll really notice how comfortable these are. I love how each step gives the same sensation I used to get at the end of the day when taking off my shoes. Love the air-flow. The material has a bit more texture than is visible in the pictures, and to me that's a very good thing. They look nice. I was validated by a 5 year old the other day saying "hey Mister, those are some nice shoes" I have learned to trust the honesty of children.Couldn't be happier!

great, comfortable shoe

This is my 3rd pair of Tevins; one in each color. If you suffer from flat fleet, as I do, these shoes are wonderful! The inability to have an arch in them makes finding shoes difficult, but these are absolutely perfect. In fact, I prefer wearing them over athletic shoes. I am on my feet a great deal of the day at work and they are extremely comfortable and take a lot of stress off of my back. They look great with dress casual clothing or in jeans. As mentioned, for people who suffer from flat feet I cannot say enough positive things about these shoes.

Great fit and the classic Doc Martens comfort that I love.

These shoes are great. Fit excellent. Like all doc martens, you get a quality shoe. I really like the traction on wet pavement. Also the nice "bouncy" feel hard to describe. But people that have had doc's before know what I am talking about. This is not a light shoe so if the requirement is extremely light weight, then this is not the shoe for you. For the business casual office shoes, these work great just enough of a classic look to get away with wearing them in the office. I have a pair of steel toe DM loafers that I had to blacken the dang yellow stitching on to wear in the office so that they don't stick out, but these, as you can see, have black stitching. these The only negative...and this is me...these docs are made in Vietnam....all my previous pairs of Doc Martens were made in the UK. However, to be fair, I have not had a new pair of DMs in 5 years until this pair. Maybe DM saw the writing on the wall and had to be able to compete...

Like walking in butter!

This is the 2nd pair of this exact shoe I have owned. Both pairs, right out of the box are SO comfortable. Your feet will thank you. The 1st pair lasted me about 3 years. The leather and the sole were still in amazing shape after 3 years. The interior had started to wear and my heels were getting sore so I figured it was time for a new pair. I normally wear a size 11 1/2 to a 12 but in these I wear US 11M. If you have never owned Dr. Martens before, you might want to go a 1/2 to a full size smaller than you normally wear. These shoes are a little bit heavier than a similar shoe like a Rockport (my last pair of Rockports lasted less than 3 months before they fell apart.)

Stitching makes the difference

Doc Martens have always been a well made product, and at under $50 this pair was a bargain. They fit perfectly - a hair snug at first, and settled in after a day or two. They can get a little warm, but this is to be expected with this type of design; and again, they were purchased in lieu of something much more expensive that addresses this issue. I appreciate the stitched seam work and solid sole, it means they will last in good shape for as long as I wish them to rather than fall apart like a 'glued' shoe will do after a year or two.
