I read some of the reviews upset about the page with contraceptives. Honestly, for any kid that sees that page, it opens a window to discuss family values. As other people have complained that the page goes too far...no, it doesn't. The person who sees it would have to know what they are to even make sense of it. This book is fantastic. Yes, body parts are labeled with appropriate labels. My kids should talk about our bodies with appropriate words and this book does that. Happy with this purchase and I decided to not cut out the male reproductive page.

A WONDERFUL book for vocabulary. They just packed so much into this little book - practically everything you use or are familiar with. The sections cover people, appearance, health, home, services, shopping, food, eating out, study, work, transportation, sports, leisure, environment, and includes a reference section for time, maps, seasons, numbers, weights and a section of useful phrases, antonyms and particles. And it's all covered in sections, tons of tons of everything.For example, under shopping is a subsection for la farmacia (drug store) and in that subsection, you receive the Spanish words for: dental care, feminine hygiene, deodorants, vitamins, pharmacy, pharmacist, cough medicine, herbal remedies, skin care, sunscreen, sunblock, insect repellant, wet wipes, tissue/Kleenex, sanitary napkin, tampon, panty liner, capsule, pill, medical measuring spoon, instructions, cream, ointment, gel, suppository, eye drops, eye dropper, syringe, needle, spray, powder,iron, multivitamins, disposable, medicine, pain killer, calcium, side effects, souble, laxative, sedative, magnesium, expiration date, dosage, diarrhea, sleeping pill, insulin, travel sickness pills, medication, throat lozenge and anti-inflammatory. That is one tiny part of "Shopping."Very, very thorough. If you want to know what it is, it's probably in this book!!! It's unlikely that you'd need anything else. No book would be more complete. I've bought a bunch of them and can say this is the best with some degree of certainty. :) I wish I'd found this sooner.I even learned words for things (like parts of a camera) that I don't know in English. :)As always with anything by DK, it is nicely laid out and every page is inviting.My only con is the book is small and chunky. That's really handy if you wish to carry the thing around, but I'd like it to be bigger. (It's about 5.5" across and 6.5" high, a smidge under an inch thick.)

I have no connection or affiliation with this publisher or any of their employees. I was surprised how good this dictionary is for people who are visually oriented. In order to learn a language, like your native language, you need to learn a lot of nouns, pronouns, and adjectives initially to be able to understand the topic under discussion. This book provides them in context with other related items or people. For example, for names of relatives, it has a structured chart showing the relationships. Many other books just give the names. Furthermore, this dictionary includes the gender with the term, a feature sometimes missing in other books. Since I am now a senior citizen, I had a problem with the small print, but other people should not have that problem. I have learned more Spanish terms in one day with this book than in a week with other language books. I found this to be the most valuable book in my quest to learn Spanish.

I am usually a lover of all things DK BOOKS. Especailly for my kids. There is nothing wrong with this book other than the fact IT IS FOR ADULTS ONLY. I find it unnecessary for it to have such reproductive/ sexual/ biological visuals.!!!!!! Seriously!? Even mention of contraceptives and pictures of those methods and surprisingly graphic drawings of genitalia (p.12-13,20-21) IS IT REALLY NECESSARY in a book like this? It would be fantastic without it! I bought for my children ages 7,9 and immediately realized with pictures of anatomy and other age-inappropriate information that this was not the book for us, so I'm sending back.WHY DOES THE BOOK NOT HAVE AN APPROPRIATE AGE SUGGESTION MARKER ON THE FRONT? IT SHOULD. Should for example say 14+ on the front to inform parents because to me the book IS geared towards children to a degree in its cover art and is appealing because it is small and of course a VISUAL almost pocket sized book. Most people needing a book like this would be those immersing themselves in another culture, traveling, relocating or simply wanting to beef up their vocab. Bilingual visuals of genitalia, reproduction and birth control methods is simply NOT NECESSARY, in my opinion. Otherwise, a great book!

Well organized and fun to look at!

This book is excellent, I believe a great deal of thought has gone into producing it. The photographs are beautifully clear and precise, and well labelled, removing any ambiguity. The vocabulary is very thorough for each topic heading, Even though I have been studying Spanish for some time, this book threw up many examples of vocabulary which I had not encountered which I nevertheless found extremely useful to know. For example, the food section covers many examples of unusual and exotic types of foods, herbs and spices etc, the transport section covers in much greater detail than most books the names of parts of cars, planes etc. All manner of sports and leisure activities are covered. Anybody can enjoy this book, from the beginner to an advanced user because it is so easy to browse and pick out words which you wish to know.

I bought this Spanish/English dictionary originally to help me with learning Spanish since then I have bought so many for my Spanish friends who are learning English that I have lost count. Invaluable resource to give to any age of person who is learning. I have also bought the one for French for a couple of people as I knew that this book would become their most useful learning tool. I would thoroughly recommend that anyone learning another language makes sure that they buy one of this range of dictionaries because they will never regret it and also they are so cheap.

My husband was very suited with his Xmas gift. He is a complete beginner at Spanish and said this will be very useful. He showed his tutor who said it will be very useful and showed it to the rest of the class!

I'm a huge fan of DK books - they are stunningly put together in terms of presenting material simply and effectively whether Travel, Recipes, Science, History etc etc.This book is not going to teach you to speak Spanish anymore than the OED will teach you English, but it's brilliantly effective at 'teaching' you the words for itemsHighly recommended
