Takes your shower to the next level
September of 2022 we remodeled the master bath from top to bottom. My wife had a design planned down to the cabinet hinges but allowed me this one indulgence. We got the 4 outlet valve and controller and it is a luxury that is quickly becoming a necessity. It did not appear to be difficult to install, our contractor commented that he had not installed one of these yet but after reviewing the instructions he stated he could handle it with no issues. He was true to his word and it worked perfectly right off the bat. One thing I would recommend is to make sure the valve is mounted where you can get to it easily, it has 2 filters that can get clogged and you need access to handle that if it pops up. Another thing is be sure you can access where the power supply and battery backup connect to the valve. The first month we had it we had a power "flash" where we lost power for about 2 seconds and the controller display went blank and we had no connection to the device. I unplugged the power cord and battery pack, waited about 30 seconds and plugged them back in and we were back to normal with all programming intact. There have been no issues since then.It is quite the luxury to lay in bed and tell Alexa "Ask Moen to start preset 1 (or 2), hear the shower come on and just lay there until it heats up to your pre-set temp where it pauses and waits for you to push the button to restart. You get used to this real quick. You don't have to start it with voice control, you can just as easily push the button to activate one of the presets and even adjust the temp on the panel or through the app. You can set it to activate 1 outlet or all 4 at once and can change these during use with the touch of a button. Our set up had a dual shower head and 2 body sprays (body sprays count as 1 device) in front and a hand held device and 2 body sprays on the side set closer to the back so 2 people can shower at once. If you take a minute to adjust all of them you can get all 7 devices spraying you at once. The water pressure with all of them open isn't great but it's still a luxurious feeling. And the lack of knobs and diverters gives the large shower a clean look.Set up on IOS was a breeze and I'm still learning more about the device. I used my iPhone and had no issues but it will not work with my iPad. This was disclosed in advance so it was not a problem. The only issue I'm still working on is the naming protocol for the presets. I named preset one John's shower and preset 2 Jane's shower but they will not respond as I want. If I say "Moen start preset one" I get a 105 degree shower that pauses when it reaches temperature. If I say "Moen start John's shower" it heats up to 100 degrees (the default temp) and does not pause, just continues to run. Same with Jane's shower. If anyone has figured this out yet drop me a line.I gave it 5 stars with no hesitation. If anything changes I will update my review.

A fabulous luxury
When U first came out, it was poorly priced, much too high for the average user. It is now affordable and practical in a variety of situations. In our case, the U was installed during a complete ensuite bathroom overhaul, with the installation of a shower in place of a 40 y.o. tub. The shower is in a separate adjacent room from a sink and vanity. We chose a two-output valve set rough-in and installed it on the back wall of the vanity below the sink. The U controller was mounted just outside the doorless shower, so any adjustment can be made during showering. The cable that comes with the controller is long enough to accommodate the long separation of valves and controller. One output goes to a rainfall showerhead and the other to a handheld shower on an ADA grab bar. The unit works flawlessly to give us showers that are always the correct preset temperature. No midstream adjustments are ever necessary, and other water outlets can run without affecting the shower temperature. The only problem we have encountered is linking the controller with the Moen app and the Alexa app. The instructions didn't work and the three bluetooth sources took an hour of fiddling with to link up. Also, the commands are rigid and have to be spoken with no variation in wording or word order. In any case, the shower will work with only the controller buttons, without a phone or Alexa device.

Great upgrade to our shower.
The setup for this was one of the most painful I've encountered. I created an account then it refused to accept my password, told me I hadn't created the account, refused the password again, refused to let me create another account. After just trying repeatedly for about half an hour I finally got it to work and connect to the controller. Since then I've had no issues. I open the app on my phone and press the preset button and away it goes.It does a great job of temperature control, I don't even notice any changes anymore whereas before it was constant adjustment of hot and cold as the dishwasher, washing machine and toilets went on and off. It looks good, was a bit bright at first and wife complained so I lowered the brightness in the settings.Installation was pretty straightforward. The only part I really had trouble with were the mounting screws for the controller holder. They were too short to reach through to the other side (one layer of marble, one of concrete and one of drywall) as they recommend and longer screws are not an option as these are already incredibly rare to have heads that small and be as long as they are. Eventually I used 3/8" plastic wall anchors in the marble and screwed into those and that worked great for a rock solid mounting. The inlets/outlets connected to Sharkbite 1/2" connectors without any adapter requirements making the plumbing process easy enough.I did install an access panel and shutoff valves but even then be warned that when taking the line filters out there will be water going everywhere, stuff a towel underneath before you start or your wall is going to fill up with water.I didn't have any WiFi issues as others have mentioned but I also have a high end gaming router with eight antennas positioned directly below the bathroom. They don't mention it but when the AC power goes out it will run off the battery but the WiFi will be disabled. When it can't connect to the WiFi it will reset every couple of minutes trying to connect (and not connecting of course because they turn off the WiFi). I did call Moen and tell them about this and they agreed it was a bug so hopefully will be fixed in the future. Not a showstopper because you just have to wait for it to reset and then start the shower, and it won't reset while the shower is running.I combined the upgrade with a Moen Verso multi-head and Moen body sprayers (where the hot and cold faucets used to be) and showering now is just pure heaven. My only regret was not doing this sooner. Total cost for everything needed to complete the project was about $1600 and IMHO well worth it.
