Greetings The springs are not strong enough to hold the door open. If you are using the Hatchlift Kit Heavy Lift Kit - suggest trying H8 20" 90 lb springs. Thanks, Hatchlift Products

Q: Would this work for an underbed storage compartment that measures 14" in heights and 63" in weight?

I bought 2 for and underbed door 50" wide and 22" high. Works like a charm

Q: Will this works for slam latches? I know it defeats the purpose of the “slam” but can you still push the door shut or will it damage the piston?

Yes You Can still push the door closed, and latched. I used these to not have to use the PIA latches, and'or magnets, to hold the door Open. FIXED that issue.

Q: Does the gas spring have to be 'disconnected' with the door in the closed position?

Hi Jeanne,We only recommend disconnecting gas springs when storing the RV for extended periods. Thanks, Hatchlift Products
