Great book
I have been a state tax analyst for over 20 years. This is the best text I have ever seen on the subject.. The writing is extremely clear.

You'll lear a lot, but it's old information.
It's easy to read, and you'll learn a lot from reading it. I took a star off because the material is outdated. I would get a newer version, but it was required by my professor. Therefore it doesn't take into account the recent depression and our current recovery from it. My professor is probably right in saying that no current text will accurately depict what has happened and why it has happened yet.

Excellent Book
Excellent reference source and well written; Stieglitz delivers as usual. Expanded the concepts developed in my current class, thus permitting significant synthesis. Some examples are dated but expected with earlier editions.

Excessively intuitive. But any way, he`s a Nobel Price
Although I deeply respect J. Stiglitz, I prefer H. Rosen`s Public Finance. I found it more effective to learn this subject due to the deeper treatment of the models and theories. The only aspect I would recommend it for is because it has Stiglitz wider view of the global tendencies intrinsically in some ways.

Rigorous, stimulating & comprehensible
It is so refreshing to find a text, written by a Nobel Laureate, that is rigorous, but also stimulating and comprehensible. The writing style is so neat and it follows a logical structure throughout eg definitions and objectives of the public sector, factual analysis of the US public sector, market efficiency, equity etc.The mathematical input is minimal, but then it serves as an introduction to an otherwise dry specialism within Economics. Indifference curves are used, where applicable, and the text contains references to real-life public sector scenarios.Highly recommended.

公共経済学の最良の教科書
公共経済学の最良のテキストだろう。日本語訳も出ているが、最新の版を読みたければ、原書で読むべきだ。この程度の英語が読めないようでは、大学院では授業についていけない。
