Works good, but you really should use wit a thermostat because it does get hot!

Bought this on the recommendation of a reptile cage builder who insisted it was the best and safest heating option on the market.Really wish there was a size between the 52 and the 23 foot cable at the point I had to buy these. Now, I see there is a 39ft available, which would have been nice.... The dead cable on the 52 and the 23 foot is only about 6 ft total. But while the 52 put out 45ish feet of heat, the 23 only put out 15ish. I needed about 20 foot, of course. I had a custom-built 5-tub adult ball python snake rack which I had to end up paying to have expanded since the 52 foot cable can't be coiled up for safety reasons and the 23, while the right length, had enough dead space that it couldn't heat more than 3 tubs correctly.Ended up stuck with both cables. Partially the builder's fault for telling me to buy these, insisting they were the correct length, and unboxing and installing them before realizing they won't work, partially Zoo Med's fault for not listing how long the actual heated section is. Again, they seem to have updated this since I bought it because now it appears clearly on the amazon page. The builder said they weren't listed on the box when I had them shipped to him, otherwise he wouldn't have opened them.Once installed into my now-10-tubbed snake rack, the longer cable has worked very well. I attached it to my thermostat and it keeps the warm spot of my rack a nice, toasty temperature. The smaller one worked for the 3 tubs for time I had it installed, also.

Perfect size for 40g breeder, couple with thermostat (as with any heating element) to keep your house and pets safe.

Used in conjunction with Jumpstart digital reohstat, threaded beneath the platforms of the 4-story Critter Nation "ferret cage." Works flawlessly. Add one basking light and an aquarium water heater (for the pool) and the whole cage is kept toasty, and my bearded Dragon utilizes all the platforms. Eventually the whole cage will be fitted with a heat-retaining cover with transparent zip-up windows (like a tent). My goal is being as energy-efficient as possible while providing the most useable and versatile cage. I'm well on my way. I'm really glad heat cables exist as an option. Note: invest in better electrical tape. I got mine from the dollar store and now I wish I hadn't.

Only giving it 2 stars because I guess at least part of it works right, but almost half of my wire doesn't get to temp at all. I have the probe for my Tstat set halfway in my rack, and my bottom shelves are not getting any heat at all. The first at least 5 feet of this thing does not work. Absolutely baffled they charge as much as they do for a product that only partially works.1st picture is 2 tubs up my rack, second picture is 4 tubs up my rack, and last is top tub. I have my vivosun tstat set to 88°.Really pissed I spent the time to install wire that doesn't even work properly and will cause harm to my snakes.

Good product, but found it every difficult to hit proper temps for my needs. May be suitable for certain applications.

I, like a few other reviewers, purchased this to act as a heating element in a primary fermentation chamber for home brewing. 23 feet is LONG but I have a regular sized fridge and really didn't want to chance not being able to heat the space. This does the trick. I snipped some corrugated metal roofing to the size of the fridge and coiled this cable back and forth to look somewhat like a radiator. So far it's holding steady at around 70 degrees but my garage is ~40-50 this time of year so I have faith this will be enough to keep my beer yeast happy year round.
