Should work on any device with standard USB micro connector, which you're trying to convert to USB C. My phone has USB C, so I either have to replace all of my cables, or use the adapter. Adapters are cheaper.

Q: Is it normal for these things to get hot during charging?

No, I did not notice that they get hot at all. Rather, it is the charger that is plugged in the outlet and/or cable that get warm during charging.

Yes, these allowed me to convert my chargers at home and car to my new Samsung Note 8 cell phone.
