Q: when using this, is it easy to open the door? I would need to open the door often to take the dog out.

It is very easy to open and close. I have two dogs that are always wanting out to chase squirrels

Just want to add that I use this with a window fan so I get a partially open option. The fan has lips that prevent it from slipping away from the window. I put the fan in the window then put this in place and perfecto.

Q: What size are the ends of the product? Would it fit in an RV window?

The hinged end, which you mount permanently onto the window frame, is 1 1/2 inches wide, 2 1/2 inches tall, and protrudes from the window frame into the window space about 2 inches. The bar can hang from this hinged end when not fastened closed. I don't have an RV, so I'm not familiar with the window frames, but this fits fine in my sliding door. I ended up installing it but not using it, because my elderly mother couldn't get it open to escape in an emergency. I purchased a tension style rod that works well for now. I anticipate that one day I will be using this instead, as I like the design.
