This small external hard drive is easy to store but huge on storing data. I use this to save power point lectures.

I have been using Buffalo drives for over 10 years and not one has ever failed.

This is my second Buffalo hard drive. First one worked without a problem but had a built in power supply. This device has no built in power, relying strictly on USB port for power. It did not work at all (neither did a Seagate). Buffalo technical support figured out the problem and I recognized the need for a powered USB port. Got a Plugable USB 2.0 7-port Hub with Charging (my desktop only has USB 2.0 ports) and problem solved. This device now works exactly as expected. I have stored the first drive off site for backup. Use this one only for Windows 10 desktop backup.

This is a good buy for someone who needs a spindle-driven external/portable drive.This can be plugged into a mini-laptop with no power issues. My other external is a 7200 RPM andwill not work in mini-laptops due to its power needs.The hard drive encasing is sturdy, dropped it already on the carpet with no damage.The speed of data transfer is ok, not great since I am spoiled using SSD's and 7200 RPM drives for a long time.But, for the money a good buy.

I use this as a second (backup) drive for my data. It is small and compact, needs only to plug into a USB port.

I really wanted to like this product as it had great storage and features for the money. However it didnt even last a week before failing. After several days it began making loud clicking and grinding sounds and my computer would not recognize it. From the first day I recieved it, I plugged it in and it never left my computer desk.

Although I had to buy a powered USB Hub to speed up loading speed this external hard drive is great if you use the software provided at the online website. Some external hard drives had a upload speed of 24hrs for over 200Gigs. The Buffalo using a powered USB Hub and the software did the same job at less than 3 hrs!!!!!

Basically, take it out of the box, review the quick-start guide, plug into a free USB port and start to use, If you want to take advantage of the encrypted feature, only takes slightly more effort. Love the "deck of cards" form factor and lack of need to use a power cord. As noted by another reviewer, a slightly longer USB cord would be an added plus. Performance has been satisfactory so far - no noticeable latency - so all that remains is durability; time will tell.
