Says what it does.
I wouldn't use this lock on its own as I would not feeling it's enough security if you have a nice looking bike in London. I use it in conjunction with a kryptonite d lock and an alarm. The d lock does the hard work (but that cost £100) and this chain secures the front wheel. Looks serious so a good deterrent. Very heavy to carry around. However I wouldn't use anything smaller as it would be a waste of time against a tooled up theif.

Arguing the idiots
This review is not to praise the lock or tempt anyone into buying one, but to set the record straight.I've had this lock since May 2013 so mine is about 3 and a half years old. I still have my bike and the lock mechanism still works fine.No one that I know of has tried stealing the bike, but it's a metallic green touring bike, not a full suspension disc braked mountain bike so not really on many thieving scumbags wish lists. So I can't really say it's any good against theft, no ones tried so far. Now, bolt cutters. Very very few locks will survive an attack from these. That's a fact. Even the infamous Kryptonite New York lock won't survive bolt cutters. So the reviewers here docking stars because their much cheaper Oxford lock was cut with them is a bit stupid really. The locking mechanism. This is a mechanical part made from steel components. Steel rusts. The simple answer here is to oil the thing and look after it. Hey presto, no more sticking keys etc. Genius. So there ya go, no point complaining about a product because its owner is too stupid to use it correctly.

One Seriously Beefy Lock!
If you're serious about bike security then this is the lock to go for.Bike locks are generally rated on strength using the universal 'sold secure' standard which rates locks as bronze, silver or gold. Most Gold rated locks are of the rigid D-Lock type and for the small handful of 'gold' rated chain locks you pay a premium, the Fahgettaboudit from Kryptonite for example will set you back just under a hundred quid. So, I have to say that i'm very pleased with this Oxford lock which carries the all important gold rating and because it's not a D-Lock I don't need to free up space on my bike frame for a bracket to hold it.The lock itself is made up of a VERY heavy chain which is encased in a fabric sleeve, to protect your bike from damage, and the actual locking mechanism. The lock is basically a mini version of a D-Lock and it comes with three keys so you should always have a spare. At the end of the day a determined thief WILL get through any lock but the trick to bike security is in an old saying."If two people are being chased by a Lion you don't need to run faster than the Lion, you just need to run faster than the other person!"With this lock the chances are that most thieves will take one look at it and go for an easier target instead.

Great Lock, but sometimes the key messes up
It is a great lock, long enough chain to go around front tyre and the cycle frame (but not up to the back tyre). It is really heavy and solid, carrying it in a bag will make you feel the weight. However if you have Abus ST250 bag it will fit in their (lock and chain). ST200 fits the chain alone but you really have to slide the chain in a certain way to fit and zip.Coming back to the lock, the reason for one less star is that the key sometimes does not sit in the first time and i had to attempt it again to open. This was after just a few times of use so I did not have much confidence in the durability of the lock so I sent it back. But having said that, i do not have any doubt in the strength of this lock/ chain. Very robust and will deter many theives.Overall its a great product at great price, but I will recommend who ever is buying it should sort out how to carry it (if you plan to at all). Putting it around the frame/ seat post will put hairline scratches to the frame which i was not prepared to accept on a new cycle so i had Abus ST250 bag for the purpose.

Heavy!
I already have an Oxford chain, albeit much shorter, which I have been using to lock my Vespa to an Oxford ground anchor for the past 10 years. On purchasing an MP3 I found it wasn't long enough to go through the dual front wheels so went for this, still the same Oxford quality but with an improved lock system and the added bonus of Sold Secure Motor Scooter SILVER approval and ART 3*One caveat, it is heavy so if you are travelling with it you may need a top box or similar for transporting, not one to sling across your body.

Everything you want
Tough lock, very heavy and great price for a solid built product.Takes care of my bike over night (with additional D-lock incase).i got the 1.5m chain, as others say its too heavy to carry around regularly. (even on the bike, over 2kg)Has enough length to go around front wheel, back wheel, frame and medium post/bracket. Could go around two bikes just without the front wheelsPad lock is durable, is stiff so keep an eye out for rust as this could get hard to open. I fell confident in the strength of this lock! Has a weather guard too.Keys are strong, think they have a replacement so keep the code handy, three keys are a great plusCasing over chain will prevent bike being damaged when locking or unlockingOverall am really happy with this lock, should have bought it earlier!

Excellent
It's really good quality. Only count for its weight, I think the best to wear it or hang it across shoulder while riding.

So it happens my bike got stolen. Chain failed way too easy.
So it happens my bike got stolen when locked with this chain and lock. Bike was locked to the concrete base of my deck. The theif didn't even use any special tool, just a long bar. He used the bar to wedge between the chain and the concrete base. He levered it and literally pulled it apart. One of the links failed way too easily. No powered tools or massive bolt cutters used. Just a bar. Got it all on camera.Don't trust the chain. The lock survived though.

Best Heavy Duty Chain Lock
This chain lock is a fabulous deal. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of both the U Shackle lock and the heavy 10mm hex link chain. Thieves will need to bring an angle grinder to get through either the lock or the chain. The lock would require professional picking skills to open. The chain is approx. 60” long so it is heavy and I use it exclusively to secure my 2 E bikes to my trucks bike rack. The chain is long enough to go through the frames and front wheels of both bikes and I use my other shorter chain lock to secure the heavy chain to my trailer hitch receiver.

Hooe I get to keep my bicycle with this around the frame
I am able to go through front and rear tire plus around the frame of my bicycle. I don't think a pair of cable cutters will work on this.

Garbage lock. I would like to request money back
The media could not be loaded. After 4 months of use, the lock is unusable. After you put in the key, it gets blocked. Luckily it happened to me while off the bike. Otherwise, I would be furious. Have a look at the video.
