Cite Them Right: The Essential Referencing Guide (Macmillan Study Skills)

One of the best books available for students on reference management. The up-to-date coverage includes citing material such as social media, art works and lecture notes that are often not covered by similar works. The concise and clear layout of the book makes it very easy to locate referencing guidelines for almost any given type of material and each type of reference is illustrated with clear examples of both the appropriate in-text citation and the bibliography entry. Common referencing styles are covered such as Harvard, APA, MLA, Vancouver and Chicago (amongst others).There are also nice additional touches such as a discussion on avoiding plagiarism and the reasons for referencing and a glossary which explains terms such as 'op. cit.', 'ibid.' and 'sic.' which I have certainly found can confuse some students. This book is highly suitable for undergraduate students, but A-level and also graduate students who struggle with referencing would benefit.My one gripe with the text is that it barely mentions the use of Reference Management Software (such as RefWorks, EndNote, Mendeley etc.) to help with referencing. An additional paragraph or two to note the benefits and pitfalls of using this kind of software in a future edition would be good.

I'm currently in my first year of a degree with The Open University and referencing is all new to me. I've read a few of the online guides for referencing but they weren't sinking in. This book is easy to read, easy to understand and covers most types of referencing which is handy as different uni's, even different modules and courses specify using different types. Great book and useful to most students who need to reference

Put off buying this for ages, saw how cheap it was and thought i'd buy it as am spending some time doing bibliographies. At first i thought it looks a bit intimidating.. as it has sections on how to reference EVERYTHING... but after looking a second time, i realised how easy to read it is and how simple the layout is - it is like a reference book for dummies, get it.

Brilliant!Didn't have a clue where to start with academic writing, but this book has made my life so much easier.Even helps with referencing for translation :)Only thing I remember saying was 'Who writes 160 pages of how to referencing?' But you'll soon understand why!

I'm a 2nd year Adult nursing student and HATE assignments based on the referencing. I dont suddenly love it based on buying this book but It has made it wayyyyyy more easier to Harvard reference. It is set out simple, with examples in text and how to write in the reference book. Best book I've bought to support my assignments so far, wish I'd of bought this before I started the degree!!!

This book is a life saver! I have been using it for my second year of university and I have been having top marks for my citations and bibliography layout! I have been using the Harvard referencing system however this book shows many other styles. MUST HAVE!

This book is raved about constantly at university (we use Harvard referencing). It is helpful, however there are many resources online that could be used as a quicker and cheaper alternative.

Pros: Really informative and detailed, information is presented in a way which is easy to read and understandCons: It's really big so I never wanted to bring it to my uni where I did most of my essay writing/referencing. It turns out my university had compiled most of this information and had it available online for free at the library so I would check if your uni has something similar before you purchase.
