Q: Why it cannot work when I first receive it?

Q: Is this electric? Can it run solely on batteries?
A: This digital clock is electric product, it cannot work only with battery. It has a button cell inside which can keep the correct time when the clock doesn't plug. When you plug it again, the time is still correct.

Q: How do I fix?
