Question 1

Has anyone had long term experience with this strap?  I am very concerned about the clips failing and watching my £2000 camera fall to the floor!!

hi there, I bought this strap about 9 months ago and could not be more pleased with it, I use it to carry my canon eos7d with battery grip attached, and a 70-200mm f4 lens + sometimes a 580 mk II flash don't be put off buying it will hold at most about 5 kilos in weight.  john.

First time I have seen this, what would you say is the benefit over a standard strap?

Much more comfortable to wear than a standard strap especially for long periods, also can be used as a conventional strap but much better as a 'sling' where the camera rests on your side and easily accessable, only problem I have had is that I have lost an eyecup off my camera in this position due to swinging movement against my side. Also worth noting the strap comes with 2 straps to attach it to your camera, however, if you use it this way you have to connect it to the same side of the camera, either left or right side but not one either side, if you fit it with one either side of your camera it will not work properly and the straps will get in your way when you bring the camera up to your eye, if your camera does not have two connecting loops on the same side then you only use 1 strap to connect it to your camera. The connectors are very strong, holds my camera with a grip and 150-500mm zoom lens no problem. Highly recommend this product, you will not be disappointed.

Can you use an adapter to thread the loop through the camera mount points as they are too thick and I cant thread them through

Does this sling affect your ability (get in the way) when taking photos in the portrait orientation?

It depends which side of the camera you attach it. I generally attach mine to the right in which case it can block the viewfinder when turned to portrait mode. However I now have another clip attached to the left so its just a case of swapping the sling to the other side. I know a lot of people who use the rival sling that attaches to the tripod bush, but for me, as I primarily shoot landscapes, I leave my quick release attached so I can't use that. I highly recommend this OPTECH product though, it is easy to use and copes with pretty much any situation - the other benefit for me is that I also use the wrist strap which of course has the same clip system. Neither has ever let me down.
