It's simply brilliant. From being months behind schedule with having to ...
I've had an allotment on and off for the last 5 years and I really don't know how I survived before I got my Mantis Tiller. It's simply brilliant. From being months behind schedule with having to hand dig a full rod plot, I'm now comfortably looking like I may actually run out of space to plant everything! It's got a cracking little Honda engine powerful enough to cope with the heaviest of clay soils - be warned do wear gloves as it can be very jouncy and it can give you blisters if you don't. Even when it hits a rock and jams, it has a safety mechanism that stops the engine before it damages the tines or the engine itself. Then you simply turn it off and remove the rock/stone, sometimes the easiest way to do this is to remove one of the tines using the very easy method of taking out the little locking pin that keeps the tines on. It only weighs 11kg so can be easily carried, not like some cultivators/rotivator so that are nearly as back breaking to use as if you dug it all by hand. No I really can't fault it, I know it's on the high end of price for these machines but I can honestly say it's worth every penny. One of the best buys I have ever made. Would do it again in a heart beat. It's turned what used to be a source of anxiety and worry - getting my plot ready for the season - into a pleasure. I have time to do all those other jobs that have just got neglected because of spending every second on the plot with a spade in my hand. My plot may actually end up being weed free for the first season ever. Mantis thank you from the bottom of my heart... And the small of my back!

Powerful
I bought the Mantis Tiller for my allotment, I honestly think its an amazing piece of machinery, it ploughs through the ground like a workhorse and breaks up the soil, I also use it at home for smaller areas, my wife also has tried it and loves how light and easy it is to weed the flower beds, you just simply reverse the tines and away you go, the Mantis Tiller may look small but it packs a powerful punch.

Excellent product and customer support
Very pleased with this purchase. I bought this Mantis for my allotment and seems to be working good so far. No more hand digging that takes days and leaves me with blistered hands. It's a bit more expensive than other tillers or rotavators, but you get what you pay for. They forgot to add a free kickstand with my purchase, but Mantis sent me one today at no extra cost. The only one negative thing for me that Mantis could improve is folding and unfolding the handle bars, as the process can be a bit clumpsy at times.

Decent power but don't expect miracles on virgin clay soil compacted and hardened over neglect
We have heavy clay soil. Don't read the tosh people post about this machine. The blades will clog with clay and you will have to remove it every 10 meters or so. That was with unbroken soil that had been cleared with a brush cutter. This will not dig a new patch straight off the bat without a bit of interference to keep the blades clean. However, it gets much better results than digging with a fork. Once the soil is loose, this thing will blitz through it.

WOW! BRILLIANT!
OK, so this unit is expensive--but, my goodness, it has punched way above its weight for me. I employed a company to clear a totally overgrown allotment. This they did, but rotovated ineffectively, not really penetrating compacted soil. Having problems because of a shoulder injury, I found it a major expedition to get my own large machine to the site, and so risked buying one of these. It has been an absolute gem! Yes, the tines get clogged but can be easily cleared. Each time I go over the allotment it gets easier. I know this is work that is too heavy for it--but if it gave up tomorrow it would have been well worth the money. It is so easy to carry and worth its weight in gold for me!Only one small gripe: one of the tines was secured with the wrong pin, which flew off during the first use. Luckily, I had a suitable replacement, but both pins should have been supplied correctly.

Good machine but poor service from Mantis France/amazon
This order came from Mantis France for some reason. The package was open with a number of items missing. The seller has not responded to messages. The items missing were 1) carry handle 2)80ml oil 3) Band which holds handles together at top with "Mantis" logo on it. I dont care for the DVD but the other items are essential and if you have paid 379GBP you expect everything to be delivered and certainly not in an open package. The item is non-returnable.
