Interesting book, fills you in on the basics, we'll written with decent photos

Very frustrating. I am curious and looking for a beginner"s guide. This is not really it. It says you should learn the terminologies and yet has multiple undefined terms and phrases in the text and no glossary for terms. The photos are frequently so poorly printed and difficult to see the subject (poor contrast) as to be utterly useless. My advice is go else where.The only reason I am not mad is because the book was less than a McDonald's combo meal and I didn't read the reviews (my fault).

The author makes the assumption that all beginners are already well experienced ropers, and riggers. He does NOT explain the basics, and just assumes that you know what he is talking about. Case in point... Talking about how to add or attach rope to a tie Bottom of page 21 reads...At the point where you locked off your first tie, pull it as a hitch, and then attach the new rope to a part of it.Now granted, to an experienced rigger, this would be self explanatory. To a beginner??? Locked off??? Pull it as a hitch???No explanation of these terms, no glossary, and the pictures in the book are muddy, that only someone already well familiar with the tie being demonstrated, can recognize??? What the pictures are trying to convey. He does have some good pictures later in the book that are properly focused and exposed, from pages 85 to the top of page 91... The lower pictures on 91 are blurry...The picture quality ranges from pretty good to down right pathetic and totally worthless for learning shibari.He does start from the basics though and works his way up from there... If you wish to use this book as a learning aid, then you will need to find an experienced rigger to personally train you, or do a LOT of Internet searches. May I suggest YouTube... Just use the book, to look up ties, and take direction from YouTube, where you can SEE what the author is talking about.
