This International Emmy Award-winning comedy stars Anton Rodgers (May to September) and Julia McKenzie (Cranford) as William and Hester Field, a happily married middle-class couple whose children have flown the nest. Setting out to prove you're as young as you feel, Hester is determined to do all those things she never got around to when the kids were at home leaving William trailing in the wake of his wife's seemingly boundless enthusiasm. Fresh Fields' gentle humour garnered high ratings throughout its four-year run, with McKenzie earning a BAFTA nomination for Best Light Entertainment Performance. Its sequel, French Fields, saw the couple following their children's example and setting up home across the Channel; three series chart a whole new chapter of misadventure as the Fields try to breach the language barrier and adapt to the strange customs of their adopted home. This set presents both complete series, brought together for the first time on DVD.Note: "Fresh Fields" has 4 discs and "French Fields" has 3 discs.

JULIA MCKENZIE IN EARLIER ROLE BEFORE MISS MARPLE AND SHE IS VERY FUNNY
This charming comedy from the 1980s stars Julia McKenzie and Anton Rodgers as William and Hester Fields who set out to prove that though their children have flown the nest does not mean they sit in rocking chairs but find new hobbies to pass the time as they grow older, it is mainly Hester that gets involved with classes in the community and poor William who just wants a quiet life after working hard all day at his accountancy job.Other characters are Ann Beach as nosy neighbour Sonia, Hesters parents Nancy and Guy Penrose played by Fanny Rowe and Ballard Berkeley who bring chaos in their wake but they are so funny! This is a 7 disc set comprising both series Completed Fresh Fields and French Fields and an episode guide so you can pick your favourite to watch. With all the rubbish on today this is lovely to sit down and watch a show without bad language and the fantastic chemistry of Julia and Anton makes them believable as married couple.Recommended to anyone who loved or grew up watching classic shows from the 80s.

Oh this is such a happy re-acquaintance for me
Oh this is such a happy re-acquaintance for me ......... I watched these two stars bloom In Fresh Fields in the 1980's TV as a child, witnessing Julia McKenzie go further than she ever expected - into musicals as a competent actress & singer; and Anton Rodgers similarly going into musicals but also keeping his position in another remarkable TV great - May to December. Watching these two great stars of the TV was a joy. A double hander in any shape or form is delightful to witness, but these actors made poetry and music together in this beautifully written light comedy! So please i have this in my collection as nothing really surpassed their timing and comedy. Well worth re visiting this collection. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Sheer 80s joy
What a partnership! Julia McKenzie, charming and pretty as Hester, and old curmudgeon husband William (Anton Rodgers) are the perfect couple, as cosy and cuddly as a pair of old slippers. This is Terry and June Extra, with gentle, sometimes sharp, humour, occasionally descending into light slapstick (The Three Little Maids from the Mikado is sublime). Ann Beach - "It's only Sonia" is a recurring and comical interruption - we know just what's going to happen (cue a large Scotch for William), but somehow find it all so innocent and amusing. What do we have now in the way of so-called humour on TV? The likes of oafs like jimmy carr and the laothesome ricky gervais who aren't as funny as they think they are.
