Hart Strings: My Life with Bret and the Hart Family Paperback – 30 May 2013

Excellent read. very honest, after reading Brets book it was good to read julies side of the story.

Let's get it out of the way 1st; this is a reasonably good book. After reading I can't help but feel that it should have been so.much better though.Julie Hart has offered up a very touching and honest perception of her life in general and more importantly her time married to Bret Hart. What holds it back from being a great book unfortunately is that not only does it rely on a reader's previous knowledge of the wrestling business and Hart family, it doesn't feel the need to go into enough detail when it comes to Julie`s own experiences in between.Structuring and pacing are exceptionally shaky, especially when compared to her former husband`s ultimate wrestling biography. And that is one point that must be stressed; this is not a wrestling book (although it is more of one than Linda Hogan` poor effort). This book is about Bret Harts ex wife and kids and most importantly it is about the human and darker sides of Bret Hart he, for obvious reasons, left out in his own` bio.Unfortunately Julie`s lack of depth on certain moments hurts the book more than anything though, with entire years seemingly passing in a paragraph- with Montreal for example being about half a page long.Overall not a bad little read. For fans it should be considered an accompaniment to Hit man, for everyone else it should be seen as an honest statement of how bitter, and heartbreaking the confines of a broken relationship can be. Especially when there is ego and deceit involved.

Well let me state that I loved WWF and Bret "back in the day" but apart from once seeing some family photos in a WWF magazine years back and a year ago adding Bret onto Facebook after a "friend" did then wondering and doing a quick google search knew nothing about his family/personal life. I have not read any other "Bret books". I however really enjoyed this book and it has made me think of buying a few other Bret books such as his biography. First of all the cons; this book is fairly short and it seems as if there is a lot missing; it could be a lot more flowing rather than leaping from one story to another. It is not the best written book I have read. I also feel like some parts could have been more detailed and events leading up to them explained in more detail. There just seems to be a flow and lack of detail problem. However; I generally really enjoyed this and I felt after reading this that it was well worth reading. The account is very honest; from her drug use and flaws in character to his emotional swings and occasional violence and their whole relationship which went from perfect to toxic to both of them. The book is certainly not (as someone else wrote) a "Bret basher". In fact if anything she is harder on herself than she is on Bret. I really felt for both parties and am now interested in reading more and feel like more of a Bret fan. There is not much on wrestling in general or the screwjob; but I suspect that is why a lot of people have written bad reviews as that is what they wanted to read about. This is an honest account of life as the wife of Bret and I found it to be a page-turned and very good.

I found this book to be very interesting but its so short, should have made it thicker im sure Julie had more stories to tell than that, I felt sorry for her quite abit but also she seemed to just be slagging bret off most of the time which I think is unfair especially if your using his last name to sell your book. worth a read but not worth the cost for how short it is

Don't waste your money on this book! It's basically just a constant Bret Hart bashing, with little in-depth detail. I have read most books from the Hart Family and this ranks as the worst of the lot.

OK this book isn't amazing, it almost seemed rushed as if she had so much to say and just couldn't get it all down on paper. occasionally I got a bit lost as she seemed to jump from one year to another in matter of pages. However what Julie does do, is give you an insight it to the life she lead leading up to her marriage to Bret and how her disturbing past had a huge impact on her future with the Hitman. This woman never seemed to have much luck, I read in other reviews where they made it seem there was a lot of domestic violence in the relationship, this is slightly exaggerated, however there is some, to which I was shocked and disappointed it had taken place!!! This book is almost like an answer to Brets book (Hitman), filling in the bits he missed out, for obvious reason's, I read it within a couple of hours so not a particularly long book, its not very educatedly written, and I cringe as I write that because I do not want to criticise this lady for her academic ability in any way shape or form,she writes I suppose how she would talk. its an easy read that keeps you entertained, there never seemed to be a dull moment in the life of the Harts. I think it was supposed to make you feel a little sorry for her and although I did in some area's and even related to the hurt she felt, I mainly felt a little disgusted with the pair of them for what they did and how destructive they both were, especially when there were four children involved!! I do recommend you give it ago if you are a wrestling fan, or a Bret Hart fan, I am both and enjoyed it, and still havent lost my respect for Bret hart as a person or a wrestler... if you are a die hard Bret Hart fan remember, no one person to grace this planet is a saint!!!!

After what seemed like years waiting for this book to come out and finally hear the other side of the story , I was really dissapointed in the fact that compared to Bret's book this lacked detail and was too short. Growing up as a fan of Bret I was quite shocked and thought he was rather unfair on Julie in his book and that she deserved to have her say, however on reading it felt like the publishers had informed her that she had to get her life story in on a set amount of pages which ruined it as far as I'm concerned as I believe there was a lot of interest in this book and it would have received far better reviews. Would recommend for fans of Bret Hart but not for wrestling fans in general.
