Did the trick
The solid aluminum billet is sturdy but not too heavy. Fit the mounting bar on the Vstrom 800 and the Garmin.

Needs longer bolts
The part itself is well made. Great quality. The issue I have is that the supplied corner bolts are slightly too short. I feel like they didn't test it out by mounting it on a cross bar. The slight extra spacing gap introduced by the bar makes it so that the screw threads only grab a very little bit of the opposite side puck. I was able to get it bolted down, but it does not feel secure and that gives me some concern.
