I would like to buy this but i'm not sure how to set it up. i have only 1x line in 1x video out and the 2x speaker output. can i still use this item.

I have purchased this for a visual record level reference. It has a Line in and a Line out . Ie Audio in and Audio out. It suits my needs perfectly It does depend on what and how you want this for.

Does it work in the uk

mines is working fine, i was given a uk power adaptor with it as long as it comes with that and rca connection you are going to be fine

Can I just connect microphone to this unit and just monitor sound level in my room?

Not sure mine is in a lockup at the mo due to moving house. It has left & right channels so mic would only show on one side unless you split the mic signal to both left and right. Not Shute if signal from a mic would be enough to trigger it.
