Shoulder rest
This is inexpensive. Plastic, BUT, easily adjustable, east to install and compared to the 4 other shoulder rests I've bought that cost more, this one by far, the most comfortable..Why need all the excess length of other padded models. The padding on this is where it's needed..and can't beat the price.I can vouch for advanced or professional violinists, but why pay more if you're just beginning, why expect to pay more just because you have an expensive instrument..If you're into trying out shoulder rests, put this one on your list, in spite the low cost, this may be your go-to rest. The more compact size allows it to fit in small violin case. 1/8-4/4 size.Buy just as an Emergency spare if you wish to still show off an expensive model..but if suddenly a fellow violinist needs helps, this won't break you to loan out without gestationI'd buy 2. Just in case you stop being able to find them.

Stays on
Our seven year old plays at a high level and has an antique (i.e. not Chinese production) 1/4 sized violin. The old fractional violins were not made to standard sizes so none of the regular shoulder rests made for 1/4 size violins ever stayed on: they would fall off half a dozen times each practice. The adjustability of this rest, combined with very large and sturdy feet make this rest the only one that stays solidly on the violin and my child says it is comfortable. This looks like a cheap shoulder rest but it works better in our situation than much more expensive rests.

OK for Students
The width of the shoulder rest can be adjusted. The wooden shoulder rest has a threaded screw on the bottom near each end, and the attachment bracket for each foot has three holes. Depending on which holes are used, the feet can be set closer together for smaller instruments or further apart for larger instruments. The feet attach to the brackets by a screw. Rotating the foot raises or lowers the shoulder rest in relation to the instrument. The feet are plastic and grip the instrument by the tension between the feet at each end, which are shaped to fit on the edge of the instrument back. I don't like this method of attachment becauseI don't want to place any unnecessary forces on the edge of my instrument that could chip the finish or the wood. A method of attachment that relies on essentially pinching the back, to me, is not the best choice. I also note that there are many other shoulder rests that use this precise method of attachment, so let your judgement guide you, not necessarily my own perhaps overly-cautious opinion. That being said, the shoulder rest is light weight and probably would be suitable for a student instrument. It goes on and off fairly easily. It was too big to fit with the instrument in my shaped case, as are most shoulder rests, so it has to be carried separately.

Broke immediately
Purchased this for my daughter who’s in her 4th year of playing. She takes excellent care of her instrument and this broke after the second use and she said it was extremely uncomfortable, would not recommend this item.

Could use padding
We got this for my son's viola. It fits great. His only complaint is it needs for padding. But it works as it should

Nice accessory! Can't imagine why I waited so long to get one of these.
Review of Glory Wood Violin Shoulder Rest for 4/4 and 3/4 Size,Height Adjustable Feet Shoulder Rest Perfect for Beginners and Professionals 4/4 and 3/4 Size ViolinBeautiful wooden accessory. The shoulder rest has two screws that may need to be loosened off then the slide adjusted to fit your violin then put the screws back on. Mine is a 4/4 and required both screws to be removed and the supports positioned to their widest. After that quick adjustment it fits perfectly, feels secure, the material in contact with the violin is soft and cushiony to both protect and keep the rest from sliding.I never practiced enough because violin was so uncomfortable to play. This attachment makes it very comfortable to hold under my chin to play. Can’t imagine why I waited as long as I did to get one of these. To put it on, set the width as previously described then set one side on the rest with the curve of the rest towards the violin's head (reverse of the curve of the back) and slide the other side onto the instrument and “voila!” you’re ready to play!Nice accessory. Works great.
