You do need it for the top to fit on the jeep.

You have to check the Year fitment. I use this on my 2010 Wrangler JK 4 door. The straps it comes with are week and provide too much slack for my liking, so I bought a set of 4 black ratchet strap from aubuchon hardware. I secured each rear corner tighter and then used a strap above rear seat pulling tension from side to side. For less than 30 dollars it now works awesome.

I would have no idea if this would fit your model. We have a 2022 and bought the top for a 2022 Wangler. There is a piece of metal; a bar that is needed here. The top snaps onto the bar in about 8 places. The bar is bolted (on our Wangler) with two provided bolts. You will swap out some screws for screws that have snap tops on them (again our version) and that is about it. I literally put this back on the Jeep yesterday as it is now consistent summer here in LA, CA.
