Rain Gauge
Very nice ! The numbers on the gauge are super readable and it’s bigger than most rain gauges I’ve used in the past. Durability ? Well , we’re under a tornado warning right now so I guess we’ll see .We nailed it to a pole . I really do love it . I would buy this again for sure ! Thank you!

Durable And Useful Gauge
I first purchased this gauge quite a number of years ago. I liked the large size and that I could read it easily from inside my home--from a distance of 30 feet or so. I used it in the first location for 4 or 5 years, and then moved it to a second location for another period of at least 5 years or more. I'm not sure of the exact age of my original unit but I know I had it for at least 10 years. For the first few years I took it down during winter, but after I changed locations I left it out year-round. The only thing that changed over the years was the little orange float inside the gauge gradually faded from the original bright orange to a much lighter color. The gauge tube, holder and cup on top remained perfect, and the markings remained easily readable. In September 2023 we had a severe hail storm with some really large hail and high wind. The large green collection cup on top of the tube got knocked off by hail and the wind blew it completely away--couldn't find it anywhere. I immediately set out to find a duplicate rain gauge, and this one is identical to my first one in every respect. I don't know if this one will last another 10+ years, but if it does it may outlast me. This has been an excellent item and unusually durable; I can certainly recommend it.

This rain gauge is great
Quite a few years ago, a buddy of mine gave me one of these rain gauges, which is easy to read from my window even when placed pretty far away in an optimum open spot to record rainfall accurately. The only reason I got a new one is that hot and cold weather, along with stray leaves, dust, and the like that blew into my original one, eventually darkened the clear plastic, making it harder to see the water level inside, and finally, even though it was still usable, weather extremes eventually caused the plastic to become brittle to where it got a crack in the end at the bottom and the tube began leaking. I didn't hesitate for a second to get a new one just like the one my buddy gave me.

More accurate than we expected
This rain gauge was easy to mount on a fence post with a couple of zip ties (not included, but you should have a bunch of zip ties anyway.) We can read it easily from our recliners, about 10 yards away. For night-time, I'm going to use reflective tape on all the gradation markers so when we turn on the patio light it will reflect the lines. Here's the great surprise for us: it is easy to distinguish amounts as small as 1/16th of an inch! The deal is that the red "poker chip" is just the right width. The bottom of the poker chip marks the top of the water, so if the bottom of the chip is on, say, the 1/2 inch marker, then you've got 1/2 inch of rain. If the top of the chip lines up with the 1/2 in. marker, the bottom of the chip is exactly halfway between the 1/4 line and the 1/2 line, so that would be 3/8 inch. And if you can see just as much space between the top of the chip and the 1/2 in. mark as you can see between the bottom of the chip and the 1/4 in. mark, then you've got 5/15th in. And so on, all the way up the gauge. I can only assume that it was designed this way, although the packaging doesn't say so. It took us a few months of use before we caught on through constant observation. The tipping spoon rain gauge in our Davis weather station quit working. This is an inexpensive and useful alternative and we're happy with it. The only disadvantage, compared to when the Davis rain gauge was working, is that the Davis didn't have to be emptied and this one does. That is a minor inconvenience for all but the biggest storms.

An important part of our garden
This rain gauge plays an important part in our garden. Here is Texas, it can get hot and very dry, which necessitates watering our acre of flowers and shrubs. Knowing accurately how much rain we receive helps us to know the amount of watering we'll need to do in the near future. This product has very easy-to-read values on it. We can look out our bedroom window and easily see the rainfall amount from about 30 feet away. Installation is easy: you will need to provide a wooden stake (or an existing fence post) and two screws to install the holder. The rain gauge slips in and out of this holder easily, for quick emptying -- so you can get ready to record the next rainfall. The readings we get seem very accurate. I have given this item as gifts to friends as well, and they love it too.
