Quality graphic novel classic, better size
I had owned the full-size version of this classic, but in a frenzy of down-sizing some years back, opted to donate a bunch of my books, Watchmen included. When I saw this in its new size, I couldn't resist. Same great quality graphic novel in a more manageable size, to be revisited at leisure. It's a great read with terrific graphics, and I am happy to have it again.

Watchmen compact comic review.
I loved the value of having the whole "Watchmen" limited series in a compact, vibrant, and portable form. I will be getting more of these.

Heard a lot of good things about Watchmen...lives up to the hype 100%
I've only gotten into reading comics recently, but Watchmen was an excellent read. Interesting characters (Dr. Manhattan and Rorschach were especially fascinating to me) in a world that felt pretty fleshed out. It feels dark and dramatic and the stakes felt pretty high even when it has a literal living nuke as one of the main characters. I really like how there are sections between each chapter with text that act as in-world documents, they add that much more context and depth to the story as well as helped clear up some confusion I had with the story. I didn't get why the writing kept making direct callbacks to those random pirate comics, for example, but the supplemental texts explain that, in the world this comic takes place in, pirate comics overtake superhero comics in popularity. So there's a good thematic significance for including them even if it seems random at first. The book itself is pretty good, there doesn't seem to be any real compromise in quality despite how cheap this collection is in price. I don't tend to have an eye for detail on that sort of thing, though; I just know that the pages feel good - not too thick or too thin - and the colors really pop.

I owned the $100 Absolute…
And still this is the version that actually got me to read this book. Respect to people who like to read comics in the biggest format possible and while I agree that the books are beautiful and display well, they are so cumbersome. I bought this compact comic for $7.99 a fraction of the price of the absolute and read it on my couch over the course of 3 days (the abosolute sat on my shelf for 3 years) Something I would have never been able to do with any oversized comic. Some people say that these are smaller inferior product to what’s available or just an entry point for new readers but I disagree. I use to own many large form books and while I read some, a majority of them sat on the shelves never to be read. These books are for readers, if you actually plan to read your comics buy the edition that best helps you accomplish that goal. If you just want a pretty book to look at on your shelf, by all means spend $100 on the absolute edition.
