Dust jacket woes
The book is lovely, but if you want to give it as a gift, you have a dreadful time getting rid of the price. The price of the original book is printed on the dust jacket in 2 places. Both price locations were covered up with a second bar code and price which was difficult to remove. But I did that and it left a sticky mess in both places.. Then I discovered that the original price could not be removed because it was printed into the dust jacket. I ended up cutting it out of the inside flap of the jacket (it was not on the edge of the inside flap so I had to cut the whole flap away) and then covered up the other price on the back of the book with a thick electrical tape so that the black out marker which I tried to use (as well as the sticky stuff from the 2nd price) would not get on any clothing. The book now looks like it's been sitting in a used book store for years! But I'll explain all this to my daughter-in-law.The book was printed in China.

Looking for a gift for a rose enthusiast?
This is a very thourough book, with a photo of every rose that is profiled (don't you hate those gardening books that profile a plant and don't include a photo or illustration?!).The section on cultivation is a little breif, I was looking for some information on transplanting and it wasn't there. Also, this book is very big and heavy, it's probably not something you're going to tote around your garden to use to identify your plants (better to cut a stem and bring it to the book).Still, I LOVE looking at this book. It would be a very good book to have when planning a rose garden because the author gives candid information on the hardiness and general requirements of each rose, which I appreciate. If you love roses, or need a gift for someone who does, this book makes a wonderful addition to the garden library.

Rose encyclopedia
Very beautiful book. It is like the encyclopedia of rose. Good for collection. Pretty heavy book though.

not well organized
This book is huge, covers 1500 roses, and has nice photos, mostly close-ups. However, except for 15 pages of wild roses, and 18 pages of miniature roses, everything else - almost 400 pages - is mixed together. I would enjoy it much more if it had been divided into, at least, modern and old roses. I was disappointed and will probably give this away. I'm sure someone else will love it.This may be an earlier edition (it has a different cover), but there's no publication date. So, to be fair, I can't speak for the new edition.

I am passionate about the roses, in my country we only have a few varieties of antique roses, but no D. Austin. However I am happy with this book, because in my garden with roses modern. This book is very beautiful, with history, with well-defined photos with the description, exact, so I could see, in this book at least four of my roses and exactly matches the description of the book.!!!!!, It's wonderful to learn, watch and delight the soul

BIG book on roses.
Encyclopedic tome on roses. One of the best. Book is very large, should be viewed while resting on a table or tray. Information is more photographic than text so is helpful for identification or just brightening up a wintery afternoon. My copy came as listed - in very good contion.

Kind of the bible of roses
This book has just about every rose there is listed with a small bit of info about it. Because this has so many listings, you won't get all the info on a particular rose, but you can always look somewhere else for that. This book is huge and pictures are generally good. I am glad I bought this for reference or research. I'd say it is a MUST for true rose lovers!

The Ultimate Rose Book - maybe not...
This is a good book, but does not contain as many current roses as hoped, given its 'new and expanded' promise. Perhaps more suited to the American market - especially as it has a large section dedicated to miniature roses. The RHS Encyclopedia of Roses is still more useful and comprehensive to my mind, although it is about time the RHS published an update to take in the many excellent introductions since y2k.

Book review
A massive book full of excellent photographs and interest. Will probably cost me a fortune when my wife decides to rework the borders.
